MSE News: Warning for Scottish Power customers on fixed rate deals

I am waiting until after 31st August to decide on what to do next.
The email you received from SP may mark a shift in policy - informing people of a cheaper alternative from SP.
Once before when I requested a change of tariff from one (not fixed or capped) SP tariff to a new cheaper (not fixed or capped) SP tariff I asked the SP person on the phone why I had not been automatically changed to the cheaper tariff - there was silence at the other end of the phone!0 -

Who is right - you on an internet forum - or your colleagues on SP Customer Services ??
I spent nearly 12 months trying to persuade SP customer services that they had me on the wrong tariff with little joy.
Craig sorted it in a matter of minutes. I can safely say I think this guy knows his stuff and is a cut above their other employees.0 -
Have just received this email from SP:
Taking care of your energy needs, just the way you like it
We recently sent you an email to let you know your Fixed Price Energy Offer ends on 31st August 2009 and we would automatically move you to Capped Price Energy 2010* on 1st September 2009.
However, you told us you wanted to opt out of this new deal and move to our standard monthly Direct Debit prices^ instead of capping your prices until 31st August 2010. On 1st September 2009 this transfer will take place.
Another great deal just for you
At ScottishPower we're committed to trying to bring you our best deals. And, although having the reassurance of capped rates wasn't the right deal for you, there are other offers available.
For example, as you're happy to manage your account online, our Online Energy Saver 6 offer is 3% cheaper than the standard monthly Direct Debit prices that you will shortly be moved to - and will remain so until; 31st July 2010.**
For more information about Online Energy Saver 6 read our Terms and Conditions, and if you're interested, please register now.
Alternatively, challenge us to find a deal that's right for you
» Take the Savings Challenge................................................................................................................................Thank you for choosing ScottishPower as your energy supplier
P.S. Please remember that even if you move to Online Energy Saver 6** your Direct Debit amount may vary, depending on your usage. In the next 3 months we will look at the amount of energy you use and if there are any changes to the amount you have to pay, we'll let you know.
Curiouser & Curiouser, as they say.
i got that as well. just a shame they didnt give that option when they were sending out the original email or when i phoned them up to check the best deal.
edf and nectar points are already signed up for and on their way - bye bye SP.2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
Are SP customer services open on bank holiday?
My deal ends today but I have had no contact about what will happen from Sep 1st. Would I be right in thinking I will automatically be moved to this new capped deal but I can change that anyway before 30th Sep with no exit fees?0 -
That's what my email statedCheryl0

Hi, I am in same boat, midnight is cut off, beware? I have a suspicion SP are about lower there tariff, or bring in a new one to compete with EDF,BG,EON, they cannot hold out for ever and see customers leave en masse. They were the last to drop last year.I am very tempted to go EDF first thing tomorrow, ""BUT" as I experienced to my cost last year, the first to drop usually the first to raise.Look at it logically,SP have to compete, they are usually the last to move, up or down, look at the board to see how many unsatisfied customers there are with ALL the opposition,I think it may pay to wait a while:AaS you say, the 30th sept is the cut off point. Why has EDF not pulled the plug on v5? Do they know something we don,t? Move in haste, repent at leisure
Think they might be hoping to get a few more customers from companies whose fixed term deals expire today.

Yipee!!!! Just switched to EDF Online 5 tariff via Cashbackkings (£60 dual fuel cashback). Nectar points added as well as an extra bonus!
Contacted SP to confirm that I am on standard tariff now, but they think it will STILL take a few days for them to action it, even though I have called them and emailed them 2 weeks ago, and clicked the email link they asked for as well... oh well.they did say they were snowed under with customers requesting to be put on Standard tariff..I hope the 'big cheeses' at board level will reflect on the way they have treated their customers over this debacle after the dust settles...(but I wont hold my breath )0 -
Hi
I was also on this tarrif due to end 31st August. Have not heard form Scot power so phoned them today to see what was happening and they said they sent me an e-mail in July asking me if I wanted to opt out of the new 'capped deal'. I have not had the e-mail and told them so and they said I had been put on the new capped deal from today, and if I wanted to change supplier I would be charged and exit fee!!. I complained that this was very unfair as I have checked back through me e-mails and have definately not heard from them. The lady I spoke to has agreed to transfer me onto the standard tarrif, so if I choose to change supplier, which I probably will, I will not pay an exit fee. Have looked and transferring to EO via Quidco (£62.00 cashback) but not sure wheather to fix or not?0
