Nipperness - what are the secondary schools like?Smile though your bank is breaking:)0

Burnside and Calderwood Primary feed into Stonelaw High.
I don't really know that much about it as a school to be fair . We're going to choose private school for secondary. (Hubby private school and he can't see past it )
We're on the main train line for anniesland so that covers us for Glasgow High etc.
We made the choice to spend 50/75K less on our house, but have it the same size but not be in the East Ren catchment area and have that for school fees.
A lot could change in 10 years (baba is only 1!!!! next week) and East Ren might not be the 'place' then. And with M74 completion, I think we made the right choice. Not for everybody though.
I love hearing how everybody makes there house choice - and how different we all are!!!. My first little flat choice was made on the fact I could vacuum it all without unplugging the vacuum cleaner !!!!
BTW - My sister is selling her 3 bedroom bungalow, just gone on the market - massive garden in Alloway primary catchment area if anybody interested !!!! ( worth a go!!!)0 -
Angelfins, I thought quarriers village was one of the areas outwith the catchment for Gryffe? Are your kids at this school and if so what is it like?
Im not in Quarriers - i live at the opposite end of Bridge of Weir near the old ranfurly golf course.
my daughter is at bridge of weir primary school and she loves it. I was a bit worried about her settling in but from day 1 she thought it was great. The playground is really green with lots of trees and play areas. They also seem to get alot less homework than at her previous school.0 -
Phil, do you know which secondary school serves elderslie? Angelfins, I thought quarriers village was one of the areas outwith the catchment for Gryffe? QUOTE]
Erm!!....not too sure actually, I think it could be Johnstone High which isn't the best to be honest, so that maybe puts an end to the Elderslie idea....sorry:o0 -

Some of Elderslie is Johnstone High & but I think most of the kids go to Castlehead in Paisley0 -
ok so I am now thinking of inverkip or largs as a possible. Apparenty it is only 1/2 hour into glasgow and schools are pretty good. Bonus also that it is on the coast. Anyone know anything about these areas?Smile though your bank is breaking:)0

I would disagree that the travel is 1/2hr...I would say nearer an hour to get to glasgow from Largs/Inverkip, especially in rush hour
Largs is nice, but I personally feel it has a pretty bad 'ned' culture in the centre of town (where the amusement arcades are)...however, my uncle just relocated there from Dingwall around 2months ago. He lives on the East side of Largs (Gourock side) and that part seems to be very quiet.
Millport is just a short ferry trip away which is nice...its good for walking/cycling round.
I would say that Largs in particular has 1 main road running through it...so if the weathers bad, might have problems.
All in all, its a lovely place but quite isolated for my liking.0 -
ok so maybe need to have a rethink. However Inverkip does have a rail link to hillington which is where my hubbies business is so maybe could consider thatSmile though your bank is breaking:)0
