Help with Cat Litter Training, Please

They will learn very quickly - we have three of 11 weeks old. They have had a few wet accidents but put them in the litter tray at regular intervals and they will soon learn.
If they do have an accident you will need to try and keep them away from that spot as they will tend to go back there.0 -
Are you using the same litter as the breeder was using? If not it may be worth buying a small bag of the same stuff and when they are using it happily wean them on to your choice of li9tter.
You could also try picking up the 'accidents' and putting them in the litter tray and showing the kits. I hand reared a litter of kittens and even showed them how to dig in the litter by taking their little paws and making them dig a little, they all soon got the hang of it.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

hi yep i have introduced them to it and they have played in it lol but thats about it. I put the poo back in (with scooper) and they did go back to cover it so maybe just wasnt quick enough to get to tray?:happyhear0

the tray is in same room as they are, we are keeping them in living room for a few days before letting them explore rest of house:happyhear0

Just be aware that kittens are nocturnal and you may like to think about shutting them into a room away from your bedroom at night - I forgot to do this and had to get up at 3.00 a.m. as they were playing who can run the fastest up and down the hallway (including a lap up the paper)!0

I read a fascinating book by a cat behaviourist Vicky Hall, called 'Cat Confidential'. She explained that the mother cat trains her young kittens to 'go' when they feel a change in texture of substrait under their feet, say, hard laminate to gravelly litter. So imagine you're a kitten exploring on the carpet, you feel the urge to go, you walk onto the soft fleecy bed........!! (She explains it better than me!)
Also, one tray might not be enough in a house, as kittens can get 'caught short' - put a few around on different floors so they're never far from a tray.
The soiled areas need to be cleaned with an enzymatic cleaner that removes the odour as well as the stain - so no repeat accidents. 'Simple Solution' from the pet shop is very good on all organic stains.
Good luck & have fun!0 -
as the previous poster has mentioned, rub their front paws in the litter tray. this is what we have always done with our kittens and it has always worked a treat.0

also remember that kittens have a short bowel and very little control at this age. mine are 8 weeks old and need a tablespoon of food every 4 hours; within minutes of eating, they are running to the litter tray. we would have a problem if the tray was not clean and nearby, so please have it close to the kittens and remember to scoop out the dirty bits each time they use it.0

hi all...think it was just a case of new home and nerves as overnight the kittens have used the litter tray so i think it was a case of nerves or something.
