My 2 cats tray habits was the older lady one scaping a hole, doing it and burying it. The minx sctrathed furiously for a few minutes sending grit everywhere and then having a poo and leaving it on show. They rarely changed so I suppose it's up to the cat.

but the younger one has always been very fastidious. Note: put the door back on once they get the habit of using hooded tray - minimises sights/smells!

I agree with another poster here, she is way too little to be going out yet. Wait until she's six months old, neutered and vaccinated because st the minute it would be like letting a four-year-old out alone.

Have you tried taking the newspaper away and just using a strong binbag under the tray? Worked for my last foster cat, she was terrible. Peed on the paper every time until I took it off her. Very cute kitten though!
  • Hi all,

Don’t know if any advice can be given. I have a 1 year old cat and a 16 week old kitten which we have now had for 3 weeks. The cats are getting along but I took the kitten to its first free kitten check up and when I brought the kitten back they hissed at each other but since then they have been fine (hugging each other playing etc) but the kitten has started weeing on our bed and also pooing right next to the cat litter tray. I have sprayed and cleaned everywhere she’s been.

I am willing to try anything to make her stop doing this including staying up all night if required but my partner isn’t they haven’t said anything well they have in terms of I can’t deal with this is this is always going to happen. So I just want any advice on whether I n eed to take her to the vet (I have pet insurance ) or whether there is any techniques I could do?

    Thanks

    kirsty

When you say you have cleaned everywhere, what have you cleaned with?
Use biological washing powder, dissolved in warm water. It has enzymes which break down the ammonia in wee. Even if you cant smell it, little kitty probably still can.

Firstly, cats are usually very clean creatures so a kitten weeing in places it shouldnt be is a concern. A trip to the vet is in order to rule out any urinary tract infections.
Does your other cat use the tray awell? If she does, you need to get another one and possibly even a third.
To retrain your kitten to use the tray properly you need to pick it up after every single meal time and place it on the tray. And then at intermittent periods throughout the day (if you're home)
Consider minimising the amount of rooms in your house that the kitten has access to while you're retraining. For example, if she keeps weeing on your bed, dont allow her into the room.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Also, re pooing next to the tray. It sounds like she was standing in the tray and her bum was over the edge?? Or was it just near?
Either way, stand your tray on some newspaper to make it easier to clean.

Or you could get a covered tray which has high sides and take the lid off which is what i have for my two at home.

  • Could it be your kitten is stressed following the trip to the vets? (I assume everything was fine until then?).

As pickpick says, biological washing powder is a must (plus keep your bedroom door shut!). Make sure the littler tray is cleaned out regularly (some cats won't use a dirty tray).

When you're not at home, can you restrict her to the room with the litter tray? If you can, just make sure she's got somewhere to sleep and toys to play with. Give her lots of reassurance when you are around, and again, I can only echo picklepick in making sure to put her on the littler tray frequently.

Thank you so much for your reply. Both the cats have their own litter tray, food bowls, drink bowls, cat beds etc she's only seems to be doing this since I took her to the vet on saturday and they said she's been fine but since then all this started.

I was the floor with the washing powder in warm water like you said and antibacieral spray but I have put it around all corners and edges of my house.

at night the kitten is only aloud in one room (the spare room) and she is in there all day as well while me and my partner is at work. She was fine when we got her up until we took her to the vets. I took her there as she was blowing off alot and the vet said she may have worms so gave her worming treatment just to be safe she has newspapper under her cat litter the other cat uses her own cat things which is quite good not sure what to do i love her so much she was my birthday presant.... actually both of them are lol but i would never get rid of them i just wish i could make this stop just seems funny this has happened since bringing her own from vets she was only in there 10 minutes as well.

Hmm it sounds like it could be stressed related then.
Persevere with retraining the little one and hopefully it will sort itself out.

A lot of these sprays contain ammonia which can actually attract cats to areas to urinate so stick with the bio washing powder.

It sounds more like stress urinating (the poo just being an accident) I would close your bedroom off. It also may be worth considering a Feliway plugin
