Help with Cat Litter Training, Please

Hi there
I had already discussed with the vet about taking a sample - but we decided to do worming first as it was early days. I have taken the sample today and will take it with me as testing is the next step.
I would not add to cat family until this is sorted. My adult cat is fine still. I just meant that we have put a deposit down on 2 kittens and are due to collect them on a certain date next month. We have a few weeks to sort this out yet.
I'm OK with dealing with the health side of things...I would not scrimp on vet visits whenever needed - my original post was more about the litter tray issue.
I have just bought a smaller tray with different litter and put it in a more secluded place - he has used it twice so far so fingers crossed!Owned by [STRIKE]4[/STRIKE] 4 cats: 2 x Maine coon cross males, 1 x Pixie Bob male and[STRIKE] 2[/STRIKE] 1 x Norwegian Forest male....cute!

Vet says everything normal apart from the runs! No signs of dehydration and normal temp. Sample sent off for analysis and they will call next week.

Thank you i have an appointment with the vet tomorrow xx
I didnt realise i needed 3 litter trays for 2 kittens they usually share one and leave the other alone, but if this is the case then its looking like i need start letting them out, im just worried i guess they seem so little compared to the neighbourhood mogs xThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. Do not let them out till they have been neutered!! If you are desperate to let them out ask the vet if they will neuter them sooner than november! They could be neutered now - by november they will be seven months old - are they the same sex? if not, earlier neutering may be wise even if they are not let out, otherwise you may find yourself with the dilemma of a risky pregnancy in a very young and immature cat.0 -

Thanks but they are both male And as far as im aware the only female cat that lives near us has been done.
I have a dilema about letting them out anyway as there is a fairly busy road near us and im petrifide they will get run over so i think i'll just buy another litter tray and keep them in xThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. I don't think you'd need 3 litterboxes, esp if they both use the same one, one after the other. I used to just have 1 box down for the two of mine, a very big hooded one, but then I caught my 5 month old male kitten, pooping down the side of my fridge, and pee'ing in my dd's clothes. He got speyed the next day
I have also put down another litter tray since then and now they both pee in the same one, and poop in the other. One after the other too....barmy
I know how you feel about the cat wee though, it's horrible and stinks, and it makes you constantly on edge incase they do it again. I used to walk in the house and sniff every room and carpet.....insane? Yes haha0 -
I have two and have the same problem with one of mine. I notice she does it when she is stressed. Changes in circumstances etc.
First thing to do is check their litter tray is not too close to their food as this will upset them. No one wants to eat next to the toilet. Check the litter tray is sufficiently clean etc. Make sure toddlers are not pulling them and that they are getting enough attention. Check for bladder infection and as they are boys get them neutered to stop spraying.Debt August 2009 - £30,525.50Debt Paid February 2011
Another one popped out of the woodwork...time to work hard again!0 -
Thanks for everything xx they are getting nutered in november they will be 7 months old then x
lol i sniff everyroom now too its so annoying... but i clean the trays 3 times a day morning, then around 1 just before the kids come home from playschool then around 8 pm ready for bed time x
Ive moved their food too
But hes started in the bathroom now so ive had to shut him in the one room with nothing but a food bowl and a litter tray the room is empty aside from mt dining table so fingers crossed he'll get the message x
They get quite a bit of attention and they allow all 3 of my children to pick them up and cuddle them like you do a baby especially the kitten that is peeing everywhere he loves my eldest daughter and i think he misses her when she's at schoolThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. hi
just wanted to add more to what another poster added about urine infections.
My cat always went in his litter tray but suddenly he was peeing every place but his tray, after a couple of weeks he was struggling to pee and had blood in his urine. It was a urine infection what can be deadly, it's espically common if a cat is male, stressed or eats dry food. The vet explained they pee on other things such as a cold floor or against clothing as it helps soothe there 'bits' so it's more comfortable for them.
Ofcourse it is mosty likely a behaviour problem, but just keep a eye on it and see a vet if worried. Just because i'm a worrier i really would reccommend feeding cats wet food, just to help prevent this.0 -
Kitten has been using the litter tray for everything for about 4 or 5 days - then this morning we find a poo on the kitchen floor despite one of the two trays being completely clean?
What's that all about. Only plus side is that there was some solid stuff amongst the pile
.
Nearly there.....
