Help with Cat Litter Training, Please
Comments
-
I had a kitten that was not litter trained for a whole year. Turns out he was SHY. As soon as I provided a place that was covered and hidden away he would go no problem. I found this out when I realised he kept going in the bath, when the shower curtain was drawn.0

Yesterday, I went into the downstairs loo for a wee - I sat down and next thing I know he's jumped into the basin and squatted down for a wee too?

Hmm you saying that has made me wonder if he may have cysitis or some other bladder infection. Cats tend to stop using their litter trays and go in places like sinks and on floors instead.
if i were you id be taking him to the vets tomorrow to check for that and id also make them run the tests for parasitesWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Good point! I'll ask....this could be a big vet bill! They said parasite test was about £70!

You say you have another adult cat - does this cat use the same litter trays?
I would keep the kitten confined to one room as far as possible. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Hi there
We would do that but we have a lack of doors downstairs! We don't really like doors :rotfl:so took them off! The only doors are to the bedrooms etc upstairs where we have cream carpet throughout......not locking him up there!;) At least we have wooden floor downstairs.
It's the weirdest thing as he has been doing this since we got him but over last weekend he used the tray for EVERYTHING and we didn't have to clear up anything? Monday morning comes and he's back to his usual tricks....
I dunno....
Last night he wee'd and poo'd in the tray before bedtime - great......this morning, wee in the tray poo on the floor.....sometimes it's poo in the tray and wee on the floor....
Helllllp meeeeeee
lol

He may have cystitis as someone mentioned as my elderly cat just goes anywhere when she has this, worth getting him checked out.0
-
Thanks - I will do. However, when he wees - it's a big wee and he doesn't appear to be distressed at all? I would have thought that maybe he would try to go and do a little bit....then try again or something obvious?
Found this thread which I am working my way through http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=333792&page=14
We are getting another 2 kittens next month! I'm beginning to wonder if this is completely irresponsible/silly. We were looking forward to having a housefull but perhaps it's not good for THEM?

Is the kitten insured? If hes not, id get him some asap. Especially if you're thinking of getting more, illnesses can soon become very expensive!!What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0
-
Yup....he's insured, although there is a 14 day exclusion period! I took him to the vet on the 14th day which is not ideal as I could hardly say that the runny poos started on that day. I would think that if I try and claim they will say that the symptoms started within the 14 days exclusion!! I could have waited longer but didn't really feel it was fair on kitten to wait (over money....) I took out the insurance before I even got him cos of the 14 day thing

I have had 3 cats in a flat before (they all had outside access via catflap) and all got on well. What are people's opinions of multi-cat households in general?Owned by [STRIKE]4[/STRIKE] 4 cats: 2 x Maine coon cross males, 1 x Pixie Bob male and[STRIKE] 2[/STRIKE] 1 x Norwegian Forest male....cute!
