  • Thanked you by mistake.

My comment was neither sarcastic or intended to make you feel bad; it was purely informative.

As for not claiming anything else, surely this is what you're trying to do with this enquiry about clothes?

Thanks a lot for that; I've done some housekeeping and cleared some space.
  • Well, back to the OP's question.........................try charity shops for clothes, you can get some absolute bargains there, probably costing about £3 at a time (a shirt/trousers/jumper etc), so you wouldn't need to spend much money at all, go weekly or fortnightly. Otherwise there is freecycle (which is free:p)and jumble sales - which can mean you get something to wear for 10p!
KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:
  • When our son was small and we were living on a student grant we bought our clothes and his from jumble sales.

The trick is to go to a jumble sale somewhere posh, you can often get new or almost new clothes for pennies.

    red devil,

Why do you think that you should get money for clothing from the state, but that children should not get money for uniforms from the state?

A uniform is, in most schools, compulsory. If a child does not have one, they cannot attend school. I doubt that anyone would dispute the importance of education.

All because your clothes are too big, it does not make them unwearable. However, you seem to think that you have more right to funding than someone that cannot have a full childhood without the equivalent funding?
    Gone ... or have I?

Was just reading Reddevil's advice on the school uniform thread - that they should get nothing towards their uniform if they have mobile phones etc. Well, RedDevil - you obviously have a computer and an internet connection - maybe you could sell the unnecessary computer, raise some cash, and do without your internet connection saving you money each month - and voila - there's some money for clothing. After all, they're not really necessities are they? Computers and internet are free for use at the libraries :)

    Well, duh...

It's only parents who waste benefits on non-essential items don't you know!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm speechless he/she has the cheek to ask tbh!
  • Try your local church or mosque or temple. Also see if there is a community centre or village hall locally where you could put up a card asking for clothes. If you have children, you could spread word via them to their friends' parents that you are looking for clothes. Don't be embarrassed to ask friends. Your local CAB or welfare advice centre will know if there are any local charities that can help.

I don't think charity shops are always a good idea because some of them are getting very expensive for someone on basic benefits.

Weight loss can make clothes unwearable. When I was unwell with depression, I lost five stone in as many months, and there is no way that I could have worn my size 26 clothes when I was a size 12.

If you read the wwhole thread ...as not many here appear to do with the eagerness to pillory the person in trouble...you'd see that it wasn't your comment that !!!!ed OP off.
It was the info about them getting this grant which exactly totals JSA.

Sarcastically intimating that asking for help here ( the whole point of the forum surely?) was in some way asking for a handout that shouldn't be needed since JSA is enough.

The money we all pump into the tax and national insurance system BTW is what entitles us all to ask it for help in return...with heads held high as we aren't begging and most people find hard days at some point in life. Its a safety net we all make to catch the unlucky who fall when weaker sometimes.

Plenty of folk contribute nothing at all intot he system..in fact haven't even lived here or wrked at all, I suggest people save the venom and sarcasm for them if you really must put someone down to feel better.

You should receive about £64.30 each and every week. This grant can be used to pay for clothing.
That one. Called for you think?
