If you are in Kowloon you must take the Star Ferry to HK Island, then take the Peak Tram to the top of Victoria Peak for spectacular views.
A tip: When you arrive at HK airport go to the Airport Express counter and buy an ' Octopus Card'. It allows you to travel on all public transport in HK, and is also valid on the Peak Tram. The card works similar to the London Oyster Card. Simply swipe it at the barrier before you board the train, or by the card reader on buses.Ladies to not even have to remove the card from your handbag, just scan your bag.
You can also make purchases at outlets like Mc Donalds 7/11 and many other outlets using the card.
When you return to the airport take the card back where you bought it from and they will refund you in cash any unused credit. Hope this helps.0 -
Stanley Market is really cool. Definitely one not to miss.
Also Victoria peak with it's cool trams and a trip over the harbour to Kowloon is a must too.
If you want to see something really authentic - then get yourself to the Man Mo temple.
Also - get yourself over the the Bank of China tower - you can't miss it as it's the most distinctive building in the city. Take a ride up to the 73rd floor for a free view which is awesome.
We got on a bus from the top of the island and it was an adventure in itself we also went to Aberdeen which I didn't rate at all!)"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

As others have recommended, I would definitely do the Peak tram (basically a vertical train) it is great fun. Remember to sit down, have seen a few embarrasing falls!
The star ferry also recommended to go to the other side of the water and see the lights on the sky scrapers.
Apart from that I would just enjoy a good meal, get a good recommendation, we just ate in the hotel restaurant so can't recommend I'm afraid.
You will probably be out of kilter with your body clock so don't pack too much in.0 -

We actually have 2 nights' accommodation booked each way but have realised we may be jet-lagged...
On Kowloon side our hotel is on Nathan Road, so pretty close to the night market, jade market, etc
On HKI we're in Lan Kwai Fong which I gather is where the nightlife is!
Thanks for all your suggestions so far

Following on from my previous reply and just reading yours, I think the hotel we stayed in was on Nathan Road as well.
From memory our hotel (can't remember its name, although having done a bit of a search it might be the Novotel) had a walkway from the hotel over to the star ferry, with a small amount of shops.
In that area there really aren't that many great places to go at night. I found crossing on the Star ferry for suit making and photo taking at night was all we did. We had meals in our hotel.
As you have a little more time there, I would recommend going to get a suit made, if you go as soon as you arrive and tell them how short of time you are I am sure they will achieve it for you. My husband got 3 suits and 5 shirts tailor made to him, and they still fit beautifully five years on.

They also travel around the UK doing a similar service and posting the suits to you, although that is the more expensive way of doing it. You might find you can go to their travelling roadshow and be measured, and then take the measurements with you to Hong Kong and pay using local currency there. Remember to haggle with them in the shop, they only do a little adjustment to the price, but worth it.0 -
Both the Science Museum and Ocean Park are outstanding, suitable for all ages.
For the journey to/from the airport, try to do it at least once by bus rather than train. The bus gives better views of the spectacular bridges that you cross.0 -

Thats a great tip, thanks! DH is 6' 2" & high-waisted so well-fitting suits are really difficult to find. :beer:Mortgage #1 Oct 2008: £130,000Mortgage #2 Jun 2010: £60,000Both completely offset: 22/12/20110 -

A taxi from the airport to Tsim Sha Tsui is only around HK$350 and works out cheaper than train/bus if there's more than 2 of you.0
