24 Hrs in Hong Kong ... What would you do?

We have stopovers both ways en route to NZ this winter with roughly 24hrs to take in the sights of Hong Kong with our 12yr old DD.

What would you do?

Going out we have Saturday 19th & most of Sunday 20th December in Kowloon.

Coming back we have the evening of Saturday 9th Jan & all of Sunday 10th on HKI.

Any ideas?

  • The laser and lights show at the harbour starts at 8pm.
A ride on the Star Ferry.
    Disneyland
    Enjoy the Christmas lights everywhere.
A couple of very good museums History and Science, both with hands on activity. Both on Kowloon side.
Ocean Park with rides, animals including Pandas and a terrific cablecar ride.
    Enjoy your trip

    For Hong Kong Island:-

    - The Peak
    - Hong Kong Park
    - Ocean Park
    - Repluse Bay & Stanley Market (beaches)
    - Causeway Bay (shopping)

    Kowloon side:-

    - Tsim Sha Shui (Designer shops) and Mongkok (cheap and cheerful shopping - be careful fake goods unless you want a Rolex for £40)
    - take a look of harbour view and museums near Star Ferry piers as computerdutch said. you could have a dinner there and wait for the laser show.

other suggestion: have a try at one of those large chain cafe, eg Maxim. you will find reasonable food and not expensive.

    Enjoy !
  • Thanks for these. We're not into shopping or theme parks but like the sound of the laser & light show.

    Will definitely check out Maxims.

I was about to ask the same question... tho I have 2 days in HK and it will only be myself.

Where's good to go shopping? I have a list of electronic bits n bobs (adaptor, watch, earphones) i need for my travels and I'm guessing it will be cheaper to buy over there? I also have 2 hours in Singapore, but I doubt that will be time to properly shop!

    Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.
  • Plan your day well and be organised otherwise you will be wasting time. If you watch the laser display from Kowloon side you can then walk or get MTR up to the night market where you can buy all manner of tourist tat but also get great cheap local food Some things like hens knees you may wish to pass on

You could also visit Lantau island and the largest metal outdoor buddah ( I think) in the world. You get a cable car up to the site then a 260 step hike tothe top but he views are awesome.

The paek is well woth a visit and the tram is an experience

From what I can remember Changi Airport is an experience in itself. It's really well-equipped & is one of those airports where you can sauna, shower, etc which might be nice after a long flight!

    Check it out: http://www.changiairport.com/changi/en/airport_guide/exp_changi/index.html

    Have a great time!
