oh come off it, most people on the BR boards have a car worth about £500.
most people have got in to trouble after house repo's, relationship break up's, redundancy. Its not fair to tar all on that board with the same brush, for 99.9% of the people on there bankrupcy has come after months if not years of tears, and hard work trying to repay money after one of the above mentioned issues, daily harassment and mental torment from creditors and debt collection agencies, and was the very last resort and a extreamly hard decision to make which will effect them for a very long time, plus the ongoing comments they will be forever subjected to by someone like yourself. Its not a decision they decided to take off the cuff and when they took out credit they didnt do it to go bankrupt.
i just dont think its fair to label all bankrupts as lying, thieving, cheaters who are worth less to society than a murderer. Plus you might be friends with an ex-bankrupt and not even know it!
I've just scanned the first two pages currently on the board and have to disagree. (I must stress, scanned).
3 out of the 4 "should I" or "I want to" are because of credit card debts.
Indeed, 1 has taken all money they can out of accounts to give to another person so it can't be taken. Another raided their savings account and passed 7k to their step parents before going bankrupt.
So sorry, I have to disagree totally. It's alright you saying what you have said, but the actual forum shows something different.0 -

i can just see Sir Alan Sugar & Richard Branson doing that lol:rotfl:0 -

should it be an IVA or BR? most people are told to speak to the CAB or the national debt helpline , and not 'you must go bankrupt now'

the official receiver will know this and act to retrieve the money, the person will possibly get a restriction order against them for this action

its not as easy as some people think, you dont get away with a nice car and loads of money hidden.

I've just deleted my post as wmxlad has now gone and posted a thread directing them to this thread saying its a witch hunt.
As I said, hold an opinion, and this starts, exactly the type of response I got last time I went there and I wasn't even against it, just highlighted the responsibilities that person actually had to their debts.
This thread to be locked soon.0 -

so people from that board cant look? its already been suggested bankrupts should be imprisoned or do some community service - which is more than you'll get for mugging a granny:rolleyes:
ive also removed it now Graham as it WASNT aimed at yourself,0 -

I think he's a charming man, but heaven knows he's miserable now.
Boom boom.

I agree with your entire post except the above. The prison/chimneysweep reformers wouldn't have achieved anything by going on chimneysweep support forums and typing in messages telling the sweeps how wrong they were
Slum landlords and mill owners weren't brought to a realisation of their responsibilities by wheedling and cozening. They were forced to do the right thing by society and the rule of law.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Hmmm I am not bankcrupt and have worked hard to pay debt off. However I have used some of the advice regarding the enforcability of credit agreements as a stronger negotiating postion against some debt collection agencies.
Currently do not have any credit cards and to be honest don't want one.
I am sure many people over on the bankcruptcy board do regret what they did, I do.
I believe the banks do need to take some blame, too much was lent to easily to too many.
We went into the bank once to discuss our overdraft and they spent the whole time trying to push us into more debt to "pay it off and give you some extra to spend".
I am glad to say we paid our overdraft off, and have not had one since, again do not want one.
I have discovered the joy of saving, as well as growing my own and love the old style boards.
I never borrowed intending to default, I paid back in full the creditors who were good with us and didn't imediately sell the debt on. But I did use the LAW to defend myself against the threats and dodgy dealings of debt collectors.
It is a simplistic view to state "they have gone bankcrupt, who is going to foot the bill now".
The reality is alot of debt, especially rolling debt such as credit cards will have had the original borrowed amount paid back many times and yet still have an amount outstanding made up of interest.
The banks then sell the debt on for a fraction of the total and write it off against tax. The DCA's buy the chance to collect for a low amount and buy many "lots" in hopes of collecting a % of them. These companies make shed loads every year.
However as a final thought I do agree that people should not draw down cash off a card just before they know they are going bankcrupt.
So I suppose I can see both sides.

I thanked you when I meant to quote you, I take full responsibility for it:rolleyes:most people have got in to trouble after house repo's, relationship break up's, redundancy. n they took out credit they didnt do it to go bankrupt.it!
I have been made redundant, had a relationship break up and struggled to pay a mortgage. I got another job, learned to budget as a single parent and watched a much loved home auctioned off.
What I didn't do was run up £30k on credit cards and blame anyone, other than myself, for my own stupidity.
I dont think debtors should be in jail and I dont think anyone sets out to go bankrupt. But it is certainly used as a get out of jail free card by far too many people.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

fair enough wageslave, like you said everyone is entitled to their opinion and of course to judge, because everyone does judge. I only wanted to say that not all bankrupts do what has been in this thread, thats all. Lessons have been learnt for most.0
