Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 18th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning.

Another cloudy day here, hope it brightens up.

Spent almost the whole day in Court yesterday with a case. Pretty poor sentence I think. Read it an decide if you think it's long enough?

Off boating this morning with an uncle who is down on holiday, should get 3-4 hours in before I have to go to work this afternoon. Lots to do today, so need to make a head start soon. One of my jobs made national headlines.... I know they are in the London area...keep an eye out please

Got dragged out to Frankie and Bennys last night. OH wanted desert. Can't say I was impressed... A bit expensive and not quite American quality food. 2 cokes, 2 deserts 2 coffee's £17 with Monday discount of 25%. Glad I was'nt paying! I could do a lot with 17 quid!

Well folks, enjoy your day#

Morning N9eav and all who follow

Its been a strange weekend and beginning to the week here as all the plans we laid came to nothing so ended up spending far too much money on retail therapy due to the weather,OH is busy papering the dining room today so I will spend as much time as possible in the garden or kitchen to keep out of his way.I've asked on freecycle for some old net curtains cos I'm pig sick of those dastardly cabbage white butterflies having sex on my cabbages:rotfl:They are getting more than me and thats just not on and I have to put a stop to ita:rotfl: and according to a quick google netting will help.It better as I suffered an extreme bout of cabbage rage yesterday after catching two of them on my cabbage I attacked the butterfly with a a tennis racket murdering both the cabbage and the butterfly.I think I might need a little therapy as I'm taking this a bit too seriously:rotfl:

Other than that not much domestic being done as house is in upheaval due to redecoration being in progress

Mioliere-Was delighted to read of the safe arrival of your new granddaughter hope they both had a restful night

    MSD-Hi hope you are well

    Morning all

Very overcast here, but still need to wash. Little 'un still asleep (will wake now I've said that! :rotfl:), had 1st cuppa of the day, DH just off to work.

Less than 9 weeks 'til new baby arrives & still behind with dejunking! Sorted loads of stuff in our wardrobe & now have various piles for freecycle, charity shops & tip. Will finish that job today so we can move in our bedroom! :rotfl:Baked yesterday & some needs to go in freezer for another day, & brambles from last year to use up before I start freezing this year's crop - some already ripe & others in fields near us ready, too.

Taken so long to write this (started at 0700!), in & amongst, that the sun's peeping out now at last! :j Checked freecycle & the stuff I put on last night has some takers, so that will go today/tomorrow - now to get breakfast & sort out a few more bags of cr*p!

Have a good morning - hugs & kisses to all,
    A xo

Lovely blue sky here, hubby already at work, I was going to go in, but can't my room isn't safe to work in & probably won't be ready till next week if then!
I'll do some more sewing today as I'm out with the DD & DGK tomorrow. I'm so proud of my DD she's lost 3st.
I watched 'The future of food' last night, they had a £2 lasagne from Iceland, they used 2 to feed a family of 2 aduts & 3 children, so as I'm costing all my meals out at the moment I'm going to see how big a lasagne I can make for £2.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

:bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday to TiredMum, I know you are on holiday, but you will hopefully see this when you get back xx

Nice day here again today, got a big wash on, which I will get onto the line, and another to do after, need to hoover round, and mop floors. DD needs to tidy her [STRIKE]cave[/STRIKE] bedroom, its horrible in there .

I also need to pick my runner beans and blanch and freeze them, and stew some apples down, I am very aware that we may need to start emptying the freezers for when we move, but hate to see any food go to waste, my sister has a spare freezer in her shed, so may have to use that.

Might spend the afternoon browsing round the local town, there are lots of charity shops there, and tea rooms and antique shops, might even have a spot of lunch out.

Managed to get dd a PE shirt yesterday in Matalan for £1.50, she still needs school shirts and PE shorts, so may do that tomorrow.

Hope Kathy got here ok xx

N9eav that sentence does not seem nearly long enough

ravylesley :rotfl:at you with the tennis racket, I did not grow any cabbages this year, last year i went out three times a day to scrape off and kill any eggs, but it still was not enough, the blighters still ate everything in sight, Oh and I had netting on too

Fahitas for tea tonight, dd will have quorn style chicken.

    Have fun all xx

well yesterday was a bit stressful but ds2 has had the 5 teeth out and is ok but the stuff they gave him which gives them temporary amnesia also gives them jelly legs for quite a while but fortunatley doesn't last long

today I have to do some shopping I also have to finish getting ds2's uniorm at some point this week he's had a complete change of colour this year so have done it in 2 parts so it wasn't so expensive in one go

if I get the chance I also want to make some cakes as I haven't done any for a while and the kid's are complaining:rolleyes:

    Good morning everyone,

    Plans today

    cook chickpeas -doing that now

finish bread and butter pickles -will do in a minute

take DS2 to the asthma clinic for his review

take all three kids into Worcester to see the film costume exhibition they have on at the cathedral, that's going to cost me £22.50 seems I don't qualify for a family ticket of £20 unless I have another adult with me:rolleyes: It looks good though.

Make sausage meatballs with barley for tea. A dish based on a recipe from Rose Prince's The New English Table. She uses farro instead of the much cheaper and less pretentious barley;). Sausages are taken out of their skins and rolled into balls, fried till crusty with some bacon. A tub of veg hash from the freezer will be softened, tinned tomatoes, hm chicken stock, herbs and barley added, the meatballs and bacon stirred in and the whole lot simmered for 30 mins, or until the barley is done. I might make some soda bread to go with it.

OH reckons we cannot afford to go to the rugby this season (costs £60 a match for 2 adults and 2 kids -other kid doesn't want to go):( Looks like I'm going to have to cut down on the food and household spending, yes, and the cookbook buying:eek: I really love going to the rugby, i've been looking forward to it all summer. Think I might have to joiin the Grocery Challenge.

    Hi
    Me again.
Great to see you posting Mrs Mix.
I just popped back to post this link, as anyone who reads my blog will know I'm following Shirley Goode's lead & costing out all the meals I make, just like the professionals do, on Shirleys blog she recommends this site for recipes using up leftovers, http://www.recycleforlondon.com/reduce-reuse/recipes/index.jsp, & I though some of you might be interested.
Shirley's blog can be found at http://shirleygoode.blogspot.com/.
