after serving 17 years 256 days I was discharged from the services "Retention undesirable in the interest of the services" however I would like to know am I entitled to any resettlement after doing this long in the services
Although I don't know the full facts of your discharge, you should probably have been entitled to your resettlement grant after serving more than 12 years (around £5000, about 12 years ago), and you should also have retained your AFPS 75 preserved pension.

I suggest you contact the RBL about not receiving the resettlement grant, then contact the Veterans Agency to get a pension forecast.

Unfortunately, I don't think that resettlement training was actually an entitlement at that time, and could be declined for the all encompassing "Service reasons" type of excuse.

Why are you asking now? If it happened so long ago, what exactly do you hope to achieve?

I think the OP is asking now as he believes he was effectively short-changed by the army on his resettlement.

I know I'm wondering the same thing as my husband was discharged and did not receive an ounce of resettlement.

And sorry to trevorcoleman but I think comments like that are unfair. This gentleman is asking a serious question and doesn't want to be ridiculed.

If anyone out there can say whether or not he should have gotten his resettlement that would be more help to him.

Good luck OP, hope you get the info you are looking for.

  • The OP has not alluded to what exactly he was discharged for. If it was as a result of a disciplinary issue for which he was tried by Court Martial and sentenced to immediate discharge, then his resettlement would not have been given.

If he was caught using drugs, his discharge would have been swift and again his resettlement wouldnt have been awarded.

The OP has been very quiet about what he was discharged for - its a key issue as to whether he has a grievance, and until he elaborates, then everything we advise can only be pure speculation.

I don't know about the OP but I do know my husband was not court martialed and did not commit any crime, yet on his (administrative) discharge he got no resettlement at all. Everyone says resettlement is an entitlement that can only be rescinded if someone is discharged for criminal offences. If that is the case then surely my hubby has a greivance as he got no resettlement at all. Because of this he has not settled back into civilian life at all and it is causing him big problems.

  • So, how is his claim against the MOD for unlawful dismissal going?

  • You mentioned having a lawyer on standby if your husband was discharged at least 3 times in this thread:

The lawyer is on standby as there is an investigation going on. We have to wait for the investigation's findings first before we can proceed with any claim against the army. No disrespect but if you had read my posts I did say there was an investigation going on but we are not allowed to talk about it and we have to wait for it to be finalised before any further action can be taken.
