hi wol, came on trying to find someone who will proof read an email i'm planning on sending to one of the flat owners here to try and get them to get on with some work that needs doing. I think that i may be too close to the issue so am not being completely professional or unemotional about the subject. major understatement

Good for you.
Are you sure you're thinking about it from a personal point of view and aren't just frustrated because you're not saving someone from their own stupidity?
Not in this particular case which is probably why it's got to me so much - this is the person who I will be committing to working with three days a week - for the days he pays me to advise on all his companies that's fine if he wants to ignore my advice - but the other day is sweat/investment for shares in one particular company - I am therefore eprsonally affected if the right decisions are not made for this particular organisation as I will be in charge of it, I will have put money into it and it will be my reputation on the line with other investors (but he will have the majority shareholding so can overrule me). I suppose I was just [STRIKE]taken aback[/STRIKE][STRIKE] dismayed[/STRIKE] gutted to find out that he wasn;t quite as "commercially astute" (polite way of putting it) as I thought he was.... Some people stick their head in the sand - I was shocked to find out that he just throws company money at a problem but in a way that doesn;t actually solve the problem (cos it;s about people and in business if you wish to throw money at problem people to "go away" the last thing you do is also give them a majorshareholding as part of the deal  - kind of defeats the object of an exit agreement really (insert confused smiley)
Looks like I picked the wrong week to choose a business partner

Guess this is one thing that really sends me into a tizzy - I decide to put my trust (and money) in someone, give them power to actually jeopardise my financial security/future, and then realise I (might) have made an error of judgement
......Many years ago, my then fiancee took out a loan without my knowledge in the days where my signature wasn;t required. He put me down as the guarantor ( I only found out after we were married, he was still in debt and I had just paid the deposit for our first house).....there were already big problems developing in the marriage (of the wife = chattle variety), but that was my big wake-up call - I saw the future writing on the wall, realised I'd made a big mistake so made a swift exit.
Unfortunately I then repeated the process with my next partner to an even greater degree - this time both domestic and business were all tied up together for 10 years.....in an extremely abusive relationship
And so i started again (for the third time :o) when I moved into my current house and went self employed :T:beer::j
Since then I have remained relatively independent (OK I;ve loaned someone rather a lot of money that has never been repaid) and this recent decision was my first step towards actually some type of commercial partnership,.....insert confused smiley
(Hmmm.....just in case you;re wondering.......can;t really ever see me having a domestic partnership again - certainly not in terms of moving in with someone :o...strictly "my house your house" I think )
Well, at least I know the topic for this thursday counselling session :rotfl::rotfl:Flooded 20/07/07.

Glad the responses to the rave are pouring in,Wol. Its going to be wonderful, isn't it!
Um, about this new financial partnership ... is it a done deal now, can you back away, or are you committed? It sounds like it could be a huge problem, depending on how far down the line you've gone. Lots of worried hugs.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I was just about to say the same as Karma...perhaps you may need to get out of this one as you don't need the angst.0

Wol, hopefully this isn't as bad as you think it is. It is a partnership after all.
Have you quantified your arguments and asked him to respond with his own or is he just a bulldozer - he must have wanted you as a partner for a reason. It wasn't just to get the money was it?
Hope you'll be able to straighten [STRIKE]him[/STRIKE] it out soon. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

You always ask the right question Z (not necessarily the easy ones mind) but get to the nub (knub?) of the matter.
Is this the type of guy you can sit down with and discuss you concerns? If you could do this it will tell you whether he is going to go for the bulldozer approach throughout the relationship. Is he someone who is going to be able to admit that you are more financially savvy than him and therefore could know better on some decisions?
Or could some part of him previously choosing to work with the incompetent one be because he needs to feel smarter than the people he works with? (hope I've got it right and am talking about the right person here).
