    Sorry not been around today.

Have had a very negative day today which knocked me for six.

Phoned the BCN today to ask if any more of my results were back and they were.

I was convinced that my cancer would be hormone positive but no it's triple negative.

Triple negative is bad in that it is more aggressive, has a very high recurrence rate,a worse 5 year outlook,a higher secondary spread rate and obviously doesn't respond to hormone therapy such as herceptin etc.

Don't sweat the probabilities. Every day people get hit by things that are millions to one against, and others walk away from things when the chances were stacked against them. Ultimately, the chances reduce down to 50-50 - either it will happen or it won't.

There is nothing you can achieve by worrying about it. You can't swap to a "lower risk" form of the disease - SO STOP WORRYING. Easier said than done, I know - but honestly - stop worrying. It's not going to help in any way.

What will help is going through the treatment, stopping worrying, and enjoying life. PMA makes all the difference - for everyone.

    Hi Taxi,
Just caught up and v sorry to hear news.

A friend has recently been through treatment and is now out the other side. Her hair first grew back curly but has settled down now and looks great.

I struggle a bit with all this talk of bring positive all the time as that feels almost too hard for anyone. You sound upset and disappointed and maybe need to accept that to move onwards. Really pleased to hear you have an appointment for Friday so that means things are happening to prevent problems. You've achieved so much in such a short period of time that I think we all admire you tremendously.

Take care and enjoy a break / rest / whatever you wish.

  • I agree with maggiem - I find this talk of 'fighting' and 'keep positive' unrealistic. A diagnosis of cancer is a shock (even though treatment and outcomes are massively improved from even 10 years ago). For most you never feel ill - so it's not like it's a relief to have a diagnosis for what's making you unwell as you get with some diseases.

Cancer care also takes over your life as you juggle appointments, the unknown, your own feelings and other people's feelings and attitudes. You discuss your own treatment which is quite unusual within medical care and that brings it's own pressure too - what if you don't make the right decision? It takes over your entire life and it needs a lot of time for assimilation. It's OK to feel !!!!!! about the cancer carp taking over your life.

You don't ask anyone to 'fight' appendicitis or any other medical condition that I can think of. Somehow though you have to find a mindset that accepts what is. You realise that you've lost peace of mind and need to manage this somehow.

It's a long journey, times change and of course the rest of life carries on around the illness that needs to be dealt with also. Go gently.
