That is probably you problem then. If you had a budget for that, then you could work to get the most entertainment per pound out of it. You need the little pleasures in life, and rebelling against your budget is probably not the best way of getting them."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Taxi, glad you're home and managed to pay some debt off today, *so* good.
Re. the entertainment budget thing, I think I haven't had enough set by for entertainment, thats partly why I've had such a rough time this winter. I was determined to make things change, and this year so far I've got set up:
- week's holiday on the north Norfolk coast
- trip to see Paul McCartney
- that Joseph Stern thing.
- a local bash.
- Egyptology!
- bringing my sister down for a tour related to our local festival.
And there's always ad hoc stuff - exhibitions, open houses with artists and gardens, [strike] the odd depraved evening[/strike].

Yep - having the nose to the grindstone and never looking up is counter-productive - the only debate is how long it takes before the rebellion starts. And there's always ad hoc stuff - exhibitions, open houses with artists and gardens, [strike] the odd depraved evening[/strike].

Depravity is such a civilised way to spend an evening..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

"the only debate is how long it takes before the rebellion starts." - what a great way of putting it, Z; my rebellion used to be so overt, maybe cos I worked so hard .... now, its probably become more like what you're describing, real self sabotage cos of nose to the grindstone.
Right. I'm gone. 'Night 'night......

Hi all,
I don't have an entertainment budget at the moment..mind you I don't have a budget as such either!!!!
It's so hard to have a set budget as I don't know what we'll earn any given week. The only thing I can do is go out and earn what I can ..pay the household bills and buy everything as frugally as possible ..the best price for the quality I require and hopefully there is enough to pay some extra off the debts. This plan has worked so far for us..thankfully.
Have checked banking etc and everything ok there.Don't know what the plans are for today yet .
Have a good day everyone.0 -
I'm the same, Taxi, absolutely - really, the budget I have is simply for the bills I must pay - mortgage, council tax, fuel, yes, but also professional memberships and insurance, room rental in London, travel to London, supermarket, that sort of thing. The amount I earn varies wildly each week, so yes, living and buying as frugally as I can - but not totally sacrificing quality of life any more, I think thats what got me so sick (first time, I wrote "sock". The secret life of socks... I think somebody's already done that...).
Anyway. I've halved off half of my "cash" budget to be "entertainment" budget - we'll see if I can cope. At the moment, its not too much of an issue, as I'm still not really getting out and about, but we'll just have to see.
Have a good one.

Thanks 40SM...you too.
KC...I knew you'd face the same problems as me as well.I sometimes wish things were simpler budget wise but couldn't ever work for somebody else again so am prepared to live like this.
We work 6 days a week at the moment and use the day off just to recharge.I cannot have a drink in the evening even on a day off as am at work at 6am driving the following morning.
The only thing we may do entertainment wise is go for breakfast out..we pay for this oot of our pocket money or an occasional meal out for anniversary/birthday and that's about it.
Sometimes we'll have DGS and we either do really cheap things like park and picnic, play centres, walks or the zoo...farms etc.
I have a boring life..LOL...but boy is the world wide open when debt/mortgage free...
I have missed my holiday this year though and found that quite hard to sacrifice and may miss it next year due to wanting to get rid of the CCs but won't miss it when trying to pay the mortgage off.
I think I just have it in my head to just sacrifice stuff until cc free and then I'll review the situation.0
