We know how you feel Taxi, dad's income is so variable. We have to put £40 a week away just for him to have four weeks off a year - that's with no spending money at all because it's the minimum amount we can survive for. Two of those weeks are forced over Christmas too. Self employment definietly isn't the easiest for budgets!
I think you're still doing fantastically though!

I don't know how I get through each month without a proper budget but it works out somehow...thankfully.

Am feeling quite positive at the moment.
I am taking everyone elses ideas and going to have a bit of a life.
    Two things have triggered this:
    (1) DD works at a gym and asked me to join again whilst they had a free month.I said I couldn't because being as big as I am and smoking that I really can't run on the treadmill and do the cycling etc.I like Pilates and aqua aerobics, the jacuzzi and steam room and sauna and a couple of the other classes and that if I was a few stone lighter and didn't smoke then I would join and because I don't have a swimming costume that fits then I can't even do the stuff I like......
So she comes in with a brand new swimming costume that she ordered through work for me to try on and it fits.So this is my Mothers day present and she wants me to join the gym now.
Thinking about it it will be good for me and get me out of the house and I know most people there and will help me with weight loss and giving up smoking. So I'm seriously considering it.
    (2) I've been invited away at the end of July....usually I would shy away from going but am definitely going with DD...I have even bought the coach tickets and arranged for DS to dog sit whilst DH is at work on nights. This will be a very welcome break from my usual routine and fun.

Fun is definitely what I lack at the moment so am feeling positive at these steps.

Crikey, Taxi, what are you waiting for? GO FOR IT! :j

Look, you might smoke, you might be heavier than you like, but isn't going to the gym going to get you fit and help you shrink? Yes! And don't worry about the running etc. as you don't start off as a marathon runner or sprinter: most places have a personal traniner who will give you a program to help you start easily (say, five minutes at a fast walking pace), then help you build up. It doesn't matter how unfit you are at the start as, a bit like being a DFW and not being yourself up about being in debt, you should be proud that you are doing something to change it. And don't feel too self-conscious as there are loads of people of all different sizes who go. Just tell yourself that all the little ones are the ones who have been going for ages! ;) And what better incentive could there possibly be for stopping smoking than that?!

And as for the holiday, you lucky so-and-so: where are you going? Any room for a Pickle in your bag? ;)

    Have fun. You deserve it!

  • Morning Taxi,

The gym sounds a great a idea and a good way to get fit.

I love the sound of you getting away for a break at the end of July, that'll do you a power of good and it's something to look forward to.

Fantastic news! I'm glad you've given to DD - taking action on the weight and the fitness will help you with the smoking (you might feel worse initially, true, but it will be *so* worth carrying on ....... since you like aquarobics, you might want to focus on that for a while, especially while you're carrying quite a bit of extra weight - the water protects your joints.

    Great news, Taxi!
