Dmg I very much doubt there will be any extra flights from the airports mentioned (except the already announced Liverpool-Shannon). All the statement means in reality is that those who have already booked from Manchester will be turfed onto the existing Ryanair flights from neighbouring airports or can have their money back.

You've contradicted yourself there - first you say there will be no extra flights, but then you state they have already announced one.

The fact is that all airlines cancel flight routes, in the same way that (to use the analogy used earlier) supermarkets cancel product lines. Ryanair made a business decision in the same way that any other business would, I see no problem with that.
    Gone ... or have I?

No contradiction for anyone we has a reasonable grasp of English. Can you find any additional Ryanair flight from EMA which coincides with the destinations Ryanair are dropping from Manchester?

Of course. Although most airlines just quietly close the routes without the public fanfare, blaming everyone else! It is interesting to see that Manchester are not just bending over to every demand Ryanair make, and have actually said "no, this is the price".

I for one applaud Ryanair in their stance on this. Manchester Airport it seems has cut off it's nose to spite it's face, and losing millions of pounds of revenue in the process. Serves them right.

Ryanair are trying what the majority on here want to do, ie, lower prices and save money. But it appears to people that if Ryanair can't get their way they take their bat and ball home. I'm glad they do. I like their ruthlessness in driving down charges at airports for themselves in return giving us all cheaper flights.

To use an analogy, if you had a million quid in one bank paying 2% interest and another bank down the road is paying 5% interest and you ask your bank to match it and they say no, where are you going to put your money?

Long live Ryanair i say. Not a lot of people on here will echo that statement due to being "ripped off" "scammed" and alsorts of shenanigan's but play by their rules and fly for next to nothing. I do.

Yes, but some just end them and don't put them on sale.
Some put them on sale and then cancel the route, which antagonises customers.

My point wasn't against Ryanair trying to drive down airport charges, far from it. However, you have to remember that the airport's are not charities either and they have to make a profit. They can't just let Ryanair, or any other airline land at their airport for free; the cost of providing airport services is astronomical, and that has to be met somewhere. There have been numorous posts on here recently, airports charging for plastic bags for your luggage, charging for luggage trolleys, charging to drop someone off. There are at least 3 airports in the country who charge for the priveledge of walking through the door! Landing fees may well be a fraction of what they used to be, but airports STILL need to make their money somewhere, they are not public services.

A lot of airports jump into bed with low cost airlines, and then find a few years down the line it is the low-cost airline that is dictating the charges to them. The airport then has a very hard situation of go with it or loose the flights.

I wasn't Ryanair bashing, just commenting. Manchester airport believe they can obviously live without Ryanair. And Ryanair believe they can live without Manchester so are taking the trainset elswhere. Its not the first time similar situations have happened and won't be the last. Ryanair will continue to be succesful, as will Manchester airport. Why on Earth did it need the usual toys-out-of-the-pram press release? I might issue some press releases next time I change my car insurance provider, supermarket or utility provider.

For the record, I am not anti-Ryanair, i have used them for cheap flights that have done exactly what they say on the tin. I will do so in the future no doubt. At the same time though, I don't hold them up on an absolute pedastal for their heroics in bringing cheap flights to the masses from the goodness of their hearts.

Manchester Airport is one of the busiest international Airports in the world and will be flourishing long after that Knacker O`leary gets his cumuppance.

Cuts off nose to spite face?absolutely laughable!

Knacker can only bully the smallboys.

An added bonus for me as a regular traveller from Manchester is that I don`t have to have any contact with Ryanair Chavs.... Bliss.:j
