some people cannot afford the charges even if they are given notice

And......I never said that they could do, but merely that the change could be better for some since it didn't go out straight away with regards to unpaid items or the end of the month for maintenance charges.

You asked them for your available balance and they told you even though the charges had not come out yet so they did tell you what the balance was. Check the pre advice statements.

double standards here your money has to be in the day before for a DD but if charges are comming out , and you ask for a balance at 12.30 pm and charges come out at 4.00 pm well your available balance does not include charges untill they come out.

i bet charges are the last thing to be taken out at the end of the day.

are Bank systems are geared for the best chance of you being charged.?

Charges do go out at the end of the day but why does it matter when the money goes in or out since the charges going out were incurred before the date the money was paid in?
If the person is paying in cash to cover same day payments then they can ask the cashier to make sure that the payment is made providing the amount is in the account by 2:30pm on the same day the money goes out.

lots of people have bank accounts and banks assume that people are 100% able, when the system should give you your available balance that should include anything that the bank knows got to be paid that day.
lots of people have dyslexia ,dispraxia etc that meens they may have bad memory so rely on available balance.

You are still relying on the charges as a consequence and not the reason why there is a charge. The charge is a result of an action and not the cause.

now for the circumstances on the friday 6.00pm transfered amount from right account to wrong account.
on sataday realized my mistake telephoned telephone banking told them what had happened and transfered the money back again. so on the monday the money got transfered out and in again and even knowing what happened they still charged me £38

even though at 3.30 pm on friday the money was in the correct account!!!

But wasn't when the systems were updated overnight. As an aside, online banking cut off point is 6.30pm
