I'd like to add my vote to the suggestion of a 'green' board - great idea!

Yes....because I love having someone to share my struggle with (dh just thinks I'm a spoilsport for not letting him go to Asda).

No....because I picked up so many 'ethical living' tips from the O/S and other boards without having to go looking. I think that you run the risk of marginalising 'green' issues by giving them a separate board - only those who are interested will go there - and really, what you need to be doing is reaching a wider audience. For example, if something like the recent discussion on Milk pricing were moved off the main boards, a lot of people wouldn't ever have seen it, or benefited from it.

So on the whole then...I'm voting No.

also for people who don't have timeto trawl through all the different sections to find relevant stuff.
i think green issues more than warrants its own board..much more than, say 'gambling' or 'competitions'

    hi starlite,

i see what you mean, but gambling is more money orientated than green issues, and the competitions board is popular as its about taking a chance for nothing on winning something, rather than paying for it, iyswim. and if people wouldn't normally consider green issues why would they visit a board dedicated to them?
maybe a sub section under old style would be a better idea. i still can't see that a board of its own would get enough usage, as i said before it is largely discussed in old style and sometimes in the discussion board already. i'm just not sure how a full baord would fit in with the main aim of the site which is "money saving"

    best of luck whatever happens,

    Thanks again to all.
and it's good to hear the opinions 'against'.some vaild points there
In my opinion people might just browse the board if they see it as 'one' and if only a few people take up the ideas it's all good

Count me for a Yes !!

I'm not an eco warrior, but I try to make as few eco-compromises as possible. Sometimes these fit nicely with MoneySaving but sometimes theres a conflict. I'd definately hit an eco board regularly.

I can see the logic that much of it currently fits in Old Style - maybe a relevant question is: is there much MS Eco stuff that doesn't fit in OS ?

    Yes, I would use it!

Could it maybe be a sub-board of Old-style, since as others say, people often visit there to get joint green/moneysaving advice?

    Is it just me .....?

But I see the potential for even more confusion as to where we place our posts. Many "green" issues are already covered in OS (see the threads for cleaning, growing own veg, composting, water butts) or "In my home". What if your post is both OS and green? Or OS and in my home? The more boards we have, the more potential there is for posting in the wrong place.

People get cross enough when their posts are moved, so let's not complicate things further.

Also .. .what exactly is "green"? It means different things to different people and very few of us are actually "pure green". We're prepared to do so much, but like everything else we have to compromise. I can see squabbles on a green board, if anyone is not pure, emerald green ;)

Sorry to be unsupportive, but I just see confusion. Any green board would need to have sub-boards ... green lending, green saving, green investing, green motor travel, green holidays ..... etc etc

    :(
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
