  • Thanks for the link Poppycat, much appreciated.

So does it mean I can relax now? No-one will come after me for the 99p or the book? Phewee!

Never heard of the term 'inertia selling'. I suppose it shows how naive I am about the dodgy side of marketing. So basically, they send you stuff and then ask/force you to pay for them (and the p&p), even though you never requested or ordered the items in the first place. Gosh, what a cheek!

Sure does make me wary about submitting my details online for newsletters, forums and such...

    1. The illegal practice of sending unrequested goods to people followed by a bill if the goods are not returned
    .

The OFT should be shutting down companies that do this they are shoddy and good for nothing con merchants that prey on peoples fears

I send them a rather rude letter telling them in no certain words that I have not ordered this item nor refuse point blank to pay for unsolicited item. If you wish to pick it up then you will have to pay for it

I just think if you do in writing and the swine's black list you, you have come back on them, I really detest companies like this they low life's that run companies like this deserve to loose there livelihoods.

It does make you think about signing for freebies like in freebiews forum as some items have never been sent and I suspect some low lifes sell your details on to other low lifes.

"Out of the blue, I recieved a parcel yesterday from Mango book club with a 'free' introductory book and an invoice for 99p p&p! Like the original poster, I have never even heard of Mango and I would never sign up for a bookclub anyway."

The same thing happened to me as Starlet said. The parcel arrived out of the blue, along with invoice. Tried phoning, couldn't get through, tried website but you had to register.

Was going to leave the books but worried they would send more and eventually demand more money.

Decided to send back by recorded delivery, along with a very stiff letter, stating what I thought of their supposed 'book club'. It cost around £2.50 but I was determined to see the back of them.

One of the reasons MSE website is so invaluable is that you can read information that is relevant to your life.

I got one of these today - rang 0207 760 6500 (don't use the 0870 number - use 1899 to get the call for 3p) and spoke to a Sharon Henderson in their Customer Relations Dept. Said I hadn't signed up to anything; she said there was a website that was taking people's details and passing them on to Mango (or Book Club Associates). She said she would cancel my account, clear my details from their records and I could keep the book.

There's another thread here about it: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=171087

and one at Rpoints: Mango Book Club - Somehow I have become a member!

Will follow up with a letter. Anyone got the email address?
  • Received one of these damm books too. Cancelled over the phone but will e-mail to make sure.
