hair cutters for men - cheapest???

Options
Hello all, with prices ever increasing I have considered one way to reduce my out goings is to cut my own hair. Is it possible to cut your own hair using hair cutters, or does someone else have to cut the hair?

Has anyone purchsed any hair cutters???? where and how much would be helpful. I usually have a number 2 all over, hope someone can help.

Ive cut my own hair for over 10 years. Grade 1 all over, how hard can that be?;) My kids love sitting there watching me shave away, takes 5 minutes.

Ive tried various hair clippers over the years, and trust me buy cheap buy twice. I bought a some very cheap Wahl ones for 10 quid, absolute rubbish, pulled more than cut. The cheaper clippers tend to have a weak motor that struggles to give a good cut.

The good wahl clippers which barbers use are £50 upwards, some well over £100. I would definitely read some reviews and be prepared to spend £20-£30 on a half decent clipper set. Myself, Im going to splash out soon on a professional Wahl clipper, money well spent considering how much my Mrs spends on make up and haircuts.

Trust me, once you've cut your hair once, you will kick yourself why you didn't do it earlier.

I too have a Wahl, which I bought for the days when I had a beard.

I went out of Heathrow one time with it in my checked-in luggage. Very embarrassing when they called for me to open my suitcase because of something suspicious on the x-ray machine. I suppose it kinda looked like a hand grenade or something :)

  • another vote for wahl clippers almost 15year ago it was the best £20 ive spent .Im one of these who has had short hair cuts most of there life and had to have a shower straight after .its easy to do yourself if you have it all one length

My barber charges more for those in front of me, as I have less to cut, and it's a number 3.
Not sure if I should feel insulted on or not :D

BTW he charges me a fiver !

Have been thinking about getting a set of clippers myself, so nice to see the thread.

I bought some cheap ones (not the cheapest) from Argos. They tug your hair. They are Wahl with coloured grading clips, stay away.

After reading reviews bought Wahl for Dummies (so-called cos they come with a DVD) for OH. He's had Nicky Clarke and different Wahl ones before but thinks these are the best. Says they don't pull.

A decent set of clippers will pay for themselves in three or so visits to the barbers/hairdressers.

hey, thanks all for your nice comments, sounds like self hair cutting does work, but what I now need is a recommendation. there seems to be alot of different Whai cutters. I notice I should avoid the cheap brands, but which one is good and reasonable priced???
