I thought that was just me, all my thanks buttons on each post have dissapeared!

Im going Dubai tonight, so will fill you in when I come back! Staying in Dolphin apartments, apparently just been made so we got a good deal. £50 a night for a 1 bed apartment!

i went last month and stayed at the 'hotel kamara' and 'millenium hotel appartment' in naif.
    costs 350 dirhams per room
    well worth it
  • Baps,

The JBH has free shuttles to:

    1) The Mall of the Emirates (where there is an indoor ski slope)
    2) Madinat - a themed tourist mall
    3) Another mall that I can't remember the name of Ibu something or other

It also will give you a free ride to the Burj Al Arab Hotel which is definetiley worth a visit, but you can only go at certain times. There is no shuttle bus to the city or the airport. A taxi will be about £7-8£ to the city and probably £10-£12 to the airport.

Wild Wadi is great and free to get in for JBH guests.

The Big Bus tour is about £20 for adults, see their website for details http://www.bigbus.co.uk/dub/html/dub_home.html

The prices for Arabian Adventures trips are mostly listed on their site. The desert Safari we went on was brilliant.

Go on an Abra (small boat) ride across the Creek for about 10p, cheapest entertainment anywhere!

The only building work near the JBH is some roadworks outside. It will not interfere with your holiday.

Can't answer your question about gym and spas in the hotel, best drop them an e-mail.

Breakfast was included in our price, but £15 sounds about right. It is a buffet breakfast with a very wide choice and you can eat as much as you want.

Ta for the information. Are there any food outlets you can recommend. did you buy any electrical goods. We are thinking of buying a digital camera and dvd camcorder is this wise? what time of year did you go. People have shown their concerns regarding the weather and how we wont be able to go out in the early afternoon because it is too hot. should i be worried because i have two little ones. we are travelling mid july. any info is useful. thanks again.

theres also wimpey, burger king, macs etc.
electrical goods are similar priced. look out for fakes.

lost of curry places e.g. karachi darbar.
dont buy electronics, they may be marginally cheaper, if at all, and you may have warranty issues, just buy from the UK instead and have all the consumer benefits.
  • Agree with the above posts. July will be hot so take great care with the kids, especially when at Wild Wadi or in the pools, because they won't realize how hot it is.

Electronics are suposed to be cheaper, but I looked for an iPod and it was only £5 less than on Amazon. For £5 I would prefer to buy it at home. I would buy your camera at home and learn how to use it before you go. Otherwise, you will have no record of the first half of your holiday.

Plenty of food outlets that cater for all tastes and budgets. The malls generally have food courts like at home. Plenty of restaurants to take your pick from. Hotel food is great, but at a price. There are dozens if restaurants in the hotel to choose from.

Re the heat you just need to be sensible.

We've lived in Bahrain for 5 years and stayed here for the summer a couple of times, temps slightly less than Dubai, but the humidity's a killer. We mainly avoided 12-3pm, but if you do stay out all day make sure you and the children are in the shade lots, keep applying the suncream, have a cool off in the pool/sea/shower and drink lots of water. A godsend for me are the sunsuits, don't need anywhere near as much suncream and children don't have to stand still for v long. My 2 are 4.5 & 3, v fair and have never been burnt ;)
