Hi
Does anyone know if there is any builidng work going on near the JBH. Anyone stayed at the hotel with children. can anyone who has travelled in the last 2-3 months tell me if there is a shuttle bus from JBH and back. Is this free. If not what is the taxi fare. I have been advised to catch the cream taxis as they are cheaper. How much are you looking to pay for a childs breakfast. My ticket allows my children aged 9 and 5 to stay at the hotel for free but we have been charged 14.99 each for breakfast. Is this reasonable.0 -
I work too hard to pay in the region of £7 a pint!
I will not even consider this location now!Filiss0 -
Baps we've not stayed at JBH so don't know about the shuttle buses nor any current building work. We stayed on Sheikh Zayed Road in February and taxi from Mall of the Emirates (v near JBH) via SZR to get our bag then onto the airport cost £8. Have you considered car hire as rates are far cheaper than UK, though have to warn you the driving is an absolute nightmare
Also have a look at http://www.dubai.ie/activities.htm for ideas on what to do.
Colmil we didn't drink in the hotel, only at the Irish Village, but can't tell you what the price of beer was as our friend picked up the bill.0 -
The JBH is not near the main constructions, you'll see roadworks outside the hotels but thats all. We did the big bus tour first day to get our bearings, hop on and off where you like. Theres cheap places to eat everywhere, we like a good drink and were not too horrified about what we spent at the end of the week. Grab yourself a timeout Dubai magazine or check their website, its got all the promos and regular events. Skyview drinks package at the Burj was £70 (25 anniversary treat) then to balance things we did a Friday brunch at Al Murooj Rotana 12-4pm all you can eat and drink £15 a head including alcohol! The Irish Village is good if you want to sit outside with kids (not June-Sept too hot even at night) as mostly children are not allowed in bars. Hardrock Cafe, kids will love it and its cheaper than home. Try doing a search on https://www.tripadvisor.com forums, I got all my info off there before we went.0

Colmil, it was about 4 quid a pint, no worse than London unless you're drinking in 5* hotels all the time. Most expensive beer we had was top of the Emirates Towers 2 small lagers a tenner and it was worth every penny for the view. Out trip was supposed to be one a one off for our anniversary now Im hooked and we're going back next March.0

We're staying over for 2 nights in Jan on our way back from Oz. As we'll have already had almost 5 weeks hols, I'd welcome any tips re cheap accomodation and drink. I've checked out Virtual Tourist and I was going to stay at Golden Sands, unless anyone advises differently. They aren't taking bookings yet.
Thanks0 -
Best central location is Sheikh Zayed Rd, cheapest accommodation there is either the Ibis or Novotel, then after that Towers Rotana where we stayed (got a deal airline network £85 a night per rm). Golden Sands in Deira i think but has got lots of different blocks some better than others, supposed to be clean & comfortable for the money, not such a central location but still plenty of places around there for food and drink and one of the souks I think.0

I'd book le meridien near the airport, trip advisor reports are good except one stupid person who knows nothing. we have stayed there last 3 visits and you can book to go to royal meridien at beach at no extra charge. there are 3 lovely pools and the meridien village with 10 or so restaurants for all tastes and price ranges but alcohol is expensive beer is best buy. transfers to and from airport are free too. we are staying on our way over to OZ at New year, try trailfinders for a quote usually very reasonable.0 -

I got a free flight to Dubai last June & my mission was to stay there as cheaply as possible. I booked into the Golden Sands 3 through Airline Network, they were the cheapest I could find - £28 a night for a decent apartment, double bed, kitchenette & bathroom. It wasn't plush, but perfectly decent & I'd stay there again. It was a bit far from everywhere, but they run a free bus to the public beach, which was 5 dirhams to get onto & again very pleasant. Taxi fares were also ok.
As for drink, I visited the duty free shop as I arrived, got a crate of beer, couple of bottles of wine & banged them straight in the fridge in the apartment. Can't remember exactly how much I paid, but it wasn't expensive & looked to be the only place you could get alcohol outside the bars.
Hope this helps - have a good trip!0 -
Golden sands is a bit of a prostitute zone/red light district, been told by people in the past to avoid the area - there's a reason why it's the cheapest place to stay in Dubai.Party_Animal wrote:We're staying over for 2 nights in Jan on our way back from Oz.
