I pay £24.99 for 2mb broadband from NTL (been with them ages).

Rang Customer Relations and mentioned bulldog etc (I take 'phone service from BT). I've been offered (and accepted):

Next 3 months FREE (saving £74.97)
and the subsequent monthly rentals reduced to £12.50 a month permanently.

    WOW!

    Richard

PS: 2mb being upgraded to 4mb free of charge on 1st June too.

Just found the 0800 number: 0800 052 9403 the customer Relations number
  • :j Hi,

Last month, when the Talktalk package came out, I phoned NTL and negotiated a new price of £24.99 per month for phone line, IMB Broadband and talk local unlimited.

When Martin's email came through, I phoned NTL up again and re-negotiated bringing the monthly cost down to £22.99 with no tie ins.

It's not as good as some of the other posts I've read, but it is an improvement. I reckon, I will wait until the next bill comes through and knock them down even further!

    Thanks Martin:money: .

  • Following the articles about the threat of talk talk to ntl I rang them and said I wante to move my whole package (TV/telephone/broadband). After a bit of chat I was offered a £19.50 a month discount (permanent) if I paid £6 for free evening & weekend landline calls. As the free calls would pay for this I'm effectively getting all of that discount every month. I hesitated and she then offered me £9.50 discount on my television package for 6 months. If the next 12 months thats a saving of £291. Not bad for one phone call.

Ive got TV Family Pack, 1meg Broadband and Telephone with them and currently pay £47.99 a month. After hearing about the FREE Broadband offer from Talk Talk I called NTL 0800 052 9403 and asked about the best packages and possibly leaving, and was put through to Retentions. Initally they offered me a new package called "3 for £30", giving me all the same as above with an increase from 1 meg to 2 meg Broadband and increasing again in July to 5meg. I was more than happy with that, but called back again to double check the price again and was offered yet another reduction and package as above to £26.00 so Ive saved £21.99 a month £263.88 a year by just calling and asking.

Go on if you're with NTL give them a call and see what you get, they're desperate to keep you and with the news today that 6000 jobs are going the staff dont care how much the give you. Thanks NTL

cwaring - sorry but you almost sound like you work for Telewest or NTL as most of that information is straight out of their patter when you phone up

40 GB usage soon used up - what on earth are you talking about - most normal users would rarely go over 2GB a month surfing the net and using e mails

The cable services are a rip off at the moment and people should phone to say they are leaving simply because the deal is way better and NTL and Telewest need to wake up quickly

Aha, Mr cwaring seen your posts on digital spy

I was offered 'up to' 2mb but was stuck on 1mb due to connecting through the set top box, shame no one at TW told me about this when I applied, for self install!!
    cwaring wrote:
    1. TT offer "up to" 8mb. Well, firstly you usually have to be within shouting distance of the exchange to get the full speed. With TW (and NTL) you can get "up to 10mb" no matter where you are in the service area.

If you want to pay through the nose don't let me stop you but please don't whinge about others being more astute and paying less. It is not something for nothing, it is something for less.

I'm all for saving money, but can I also say while I'm here, that I really don't agree with this "let's pretend I'm gonna cancel and see if I can get something for nothing" philosophy.

Yes, they will put your prices up for expensive phone calls and a selective range of TV programs while the rest of us will benefit.

If you really do find a better deal then by all means get them (whoever they are) to try and match/better it, but just to do it to get a reduction in what you pay is not good enough. We would all like to pay less, but the money they save you will have to come from somewhere so they'll probably put up the prices for the rest of us. Thanks a lot :p

To the rest of us yes go get a cheaper rate and phone every 6-12 months and try for better deal.
Good luck, may the money dragon light your way.

  • Inspired by the newsletter today I rang telewest

    08000730591 option 3

I've been with them 3 years and asked 'how much notice I must give to leave.

The lady said 'you must give 30 days notice, can I ask you why you are thinking of leaving'

'you're too expensive and I'm annoyed that if I signed up on your website as a new customer I could get the whole thing (supreme tv, phone, BB complete) a lot cheaper than I'm paying now.'

    Reply:
'well, I can offer you the package at £39'

    - that's right, she just rolled over and asked me to tickle her tummy!

OK, I'll take it at that... Total saving :£16.00 ish a month for a 3 minute call.

    BTY:

I have tried before and got nowhere with a very confrontational 'if you want to leave the bye, have a nice life'. So my advice is if you get an operative who got out the wrong side of the bed just back down and ring back.

    On the other hand:
If I think about this I really am quite annoyed. The ease at which they rolled over basically says 'yep, we've been ripping you off; you caught us'.

Right who can I ring next.......

Thank you mum of three. I did exactly what you said and have now got 2 meg broadband plus 24 hour free calls for £20.99 a month plus base tv for £11.00 a month. I rang my friend straight away, she got the same deal as me.

I have been following the chat about the Talk Talk deal but I am stuck with NTL as there has never been a BT line in this house (not strictly true actually as this was the Sales office but BT don't charge the developers, only the first person to buy the house!)

Anyway, I rang 0800 052 9403 the customer Relations number (option 2) and explained that I had seen the Talk Talk offer and wondered whether they (NTL) were intending to do any similiar offers. I also added that I am a broadband user with line rental and that I have been using the override numbers for all other calls, but I used to be on talk unlimited 24 as I am a heavy day time user.

Straight away, without any further effort on my part he offered me 2meg BB (shortly to be upgraded to 4Meg with no extra charge); line rental and talk unlimted 24 for a flat £20 per month indefinately. CHEAPER than Talk Talk AND BB instantly upgraded. This also saves on calls as I was using Call1899 at 1p/min! (and saves the fag of dialling the access number and listening to the nice lady before entering the number you really want!)

Go on, make that call. Good luck. :j
  • After reading some of the postings, I decided to give TW a call. I said I was seriously considering cancelling my services with them and changing to Talk Talk. I was first put through to CR who said that they could reduce my bill by £2.99 month. I told them NO WAY as I am paying the following each month and that this would not encourage me to stay with them.

    Telephone Line Rental £10.50
    Talk Unlimited £15.00
    Supreme TV Package £17.50
    Skymovie 2,skymovie 1,sports 1, sports 2 £26.50
    Blueyonder Broadband Complete £25.00

    Monthly Total £94.50

The person I spoke to in CR just did not seem interested in keeping my custom. After coming of the phone I was seriously thinking about cancelling, so I phoned the cancellation dept of TW and got connected to a very very helpful man who was very concerned that I was going to cancel. I didn't even have to ask him if he could give me a better deal. He just asked me if I would like my movies and sports package FREE fo 6 MONTHS, saving me £159 and to call back after the 6 months are up to re-negotiate. So if they do the same agin in 6 months time I will make a saving of £318 for the year.:j Not bad for a 1 minutes phone call.

I urge anyone with TW/NTL to make the call. You have nothing to lose and you could have a lot to gain:beer:
  • Hi

First timer here so I dont know where to start!!
I phoned Wanadoo BB and asked for my Migration Authorisation Code, they asked me where I was going so I told them I was going to Talk Talk ( I have already got my phone with them and its fine ) I was transferred to another operator and offered a free month's payment while Wanadoo comes up with a better package than Talk Talk.
The operator said Talk Talk was in discussions with a big player in the phone business and would beat Talk Talk's offer.
