Tiscali: having me on

Hi
Tiscali do not turn off your email account, you can STILL use it, even though you are no longer with them. I still have my original Lineone email address, which Tiscali took over, that was about 4yrs ago.
All you have to do to use your Tiscali email address, is to keep the POP3 the same, but change the SMTP over to your new isp address, and then you can send and receive from your old Tiscali account.
Hope this helps0 -

Yes you are right. They have really vexed me today and I'll start looking around now (start on this site sounds good).0 -

>>the chances are if you are more than (if memory is correct) 1.5 km from exchange>>
It's around six to seven kilometres - after that it depends on the work done by BT to improve speeds beyond this distance.
If it was only 1.5k very few would get broadband...:-)0 -

Quite right I think. I'm under a mile from the exchange.
I've just tried to sign up for a 8mbps Bulldog account and found out my line can only take 2mbps (4 times what Tiscali are saying I can have).
I must admit, I'm feeling a bit defeated by Tiscali (not like me normally). I think I might stay where I am for now.0 -

just to clarify, this is the BT stance on 2 meg. (worked for BT BB Tech for 6 months, tained for it 9 months ago)
If you don't ask, you don't find out!0 -
Various speed testers reported that I could only get 512 for certain, this morning , on Newnet, topped out at 5258/377, and I'm over 3.5km from the exchange. More that happy all things considered.petethepet wrote:Quite right I think. I'm under a mile from the exchange.

peter_the_piper wrote:These speed testers are notoriously unreliable. I checked mine out and it said that I could only get 512 for certain and 1 meg maybe, my next door neighbour neighbours number came up as green for 2 meg.. I am currently getting between 3.5 and 5meg and the line/connection is as stable as ever.
Sometimes that happens, is the line quality in one house is poor & the house next door's is much better than you'll see the difference in speeds. It isnt all just based on distance from the exchange
