  • Well a very productive day today. I went and helped out a friend this morning and then came home to word that my hubby has been offered work 4 hours earlier than he was supposed to start so gave him a kiss, we pass the baby and off he went. I thought I would make the most of being alone.

Put baby down for a nap and cracked on with a beef cassarole and a chicken cassarole. They are nicely cooking away now and then tomorrow if hubby is out again I will make up a chicken curry, chilli and sausage and onion cassarole.

Going to spend some time playing with the LO sortly before he starts to wind down ready for his bath and bed. Hubby won't be home until 2am so I think I will do a spot of housework before settling down with a big bowl of meatloaf and rice to watch some pants TV.

Have worked out I can nearly pay off the outstanding balance on the credit card so feeling very positive today - oh and I found £20 in change in my drawer too :)!!!!

  • Well done on the productive day - and I hope you're continuing to ignore not-so_DH after his comment (unless, of course, he has apologised profusely)

DH has hurt his back so will be home in about half an hour instead of at 10.30 so I've had a run round the house giving the place a quick tidy so it looks like I've been busy all day. I have actually been busy but there's so much clearing to be done in the garage it doesn't look like much.......

    Have a good night gembaxter

  • Whoops - my dad and sister came to stay for a couple of days and we ate out a lot. Was really nice laughing and eating together for the first time in such a long time so I think it was well deserved treat. Hubby completely agrees that I needed it so happy days.

I have been speaking to hubby and told him to sort his act out so we will see. He did say he is going to pay off credit card as he thinks it will help cheer me up not just after the row.

CM - how is hubby's back now?

Going to be busy tonight though which helps but am getting very tired as LO is starting to teeth badly now.

  • Woohoo!!!! Got enough money in bank to pay off the last of the credit card - how amazing does this feel!! Just waiting for it to come across from the savings account and we will pay up.

Things are looking really good. So glad we paid of the card instead of frittering away all the money. Even managed to buy myself some nice new clothes this week. Think I deserved some as not many of my pre pregnancy clothes look very flattering at the moment.

Feeling quite good about things. Just wish the relationship with my husband was right. It feels very fragile at the moment.

  • Barclaycard is officially clear - yay!!!

Going to start to focus on hubby's DMP now to try and clear some of the small ones. Plus I know we can have a comfortable Christmas which I am excited about. We are having a family orientated Christmas so lots of food and games included.

Going to close my barclaycard. Decided I would rather have no credit cards as it reduces temptation. Need to make sure my HSBC is closed too.

Do you think this is a sensible thing to do? Am nervous about being stuck with no access to money even though I know credit cards are not officially my money so to speak.

Tried to talk about relationship with hubby last night but didn't get very far. Still that is another story.

  • We have about £300 in savings ready to be used but unfortunately I need to get the kittens spayed which is a bummer but I know they need to come first. Also my son is about ready to start weaning so sods law I need to buy a high chair etc which is more money I need to spend. Oh well at least the card is gone so that saves me £200 a month.

Not sure that anyone is reading this but feels good to get it all out.

  • £66 refund came through today from an overpayment so that will go towards a debt repayment taking hubby's DMP plan down by at least £120.

Need to get the kittens booked in at the vet to be fixed :(:(:(

Mobile phone contracts are up for renewal soon and so is car insurance so looking to make a good saving there too. Going to start shopping around.

Payday tomorrow so all bills will be sorted for another month.

  • Right not the best start to the month! We have had a bit of a relaxed few days. Still onwards and upwards. I am hoping to get some bills paid this evening. £200 at least I think.

Got a good opportunity at work to consider over the next few weeks too.

  • Well thinks are looking up.

I have found out why I am so panicky about money. When I was younger, sometimes money was tight because my dad is self employed. I found red letters and I think it made me worry about getting in that position. Although when I turned 18 it made me think it was ok to leave bills until red before they got paid. I never asked my mum about the letters because I thought they were not real. We always had food in the house and clothes on our back.

It has made me remember that I do not remember the hard times. All I remember is being loved and well cared for.

I am definitely trying to deal with this problem now I have identified it. I want my LO to grow up with a good financial mentality.

  • Hi Gem
I'm more of a lurker than a poster but I saw your note about buying baby a highchair. I don't know if you live near an Ikea but they have a highchair called ANtilop which is £10.99 plus £4.99 for the tray. Ours has been invaluable as you can take the legs off and so travel with it. We also bought one for my mum and MIL. Otherwise maybe freecycle or ebay
