No sign of the account being opened in the meantime though - knew I was being a little optimistic! Really pleased for you that your new account is up and running with little bother.
They do wait for the signed form to be returned before opening the account.0 -
thanks jem16 - must have mis-read bagsacash's postings - I thought his account had been opened before Tesco had received his paperwork - as I said, I was just being optimistic. I was very relaxed last year when opening my account, so no reason not to be this year. Thanks again0

Well, this seems to be going very smoothly.
I had my letter on Monday (24th), signed and returned it same day, today (26th) new account is showing, I've transferred most of the money from the old account into it and it went straight away. Just phoned and had a most pleasant conversation with a gentleman to close the old account and have the balance and interest transferred to the new one which should take a couple of days max.
Nice one Tesco!
Just coming back to let you know that after my phone call on Wednesday, 26th asking for my original account to be closed, true to the CSA's word my old account closed and balance transferred to the new account and showing online this morning, Friday 28th.
How painless was that, and there was me last week being all cynical about Tesco's competence!0 -

They should have transferred a small closing balance plus interest from one Internet Saver to another (to eek out another 3 months of bonus period) but sent me a cheque instead. I pointed out that I would be inconvenienced by having to make a special trip to the bank. They apologised, told me to tear up the cheque, and transferred the money across as per my original agreed request.
And as a goodwill gesture, they gave me 3,000 clubcard points...worth £120 on Tesco deals. I know I should be annoyed at their incompetence, but I'm struggling to find it in me.0 -

That's strange, my CSA said he'd send a cheque with the closing balance - it was only £8 plus the interest. I said can you just transfer it to the new account and he agreed. At the end of the conversation he again said he'd get a cheque put in the post and I reminded him that I'd really rather have it transferred to the new account.
I suppose most closures are just that, rather than transfers, so it's probably the norm to send a cheque and we're the exceptions. Still, you had a nice outcome to yours, hope you find some nice deals to spend it on :j .0 -

Well they're back to their tricks with me, I had my letter on 21 August, which I signed and sent back by return, but still nothing showing online. Not had a letter confirming account number or sort code either. As an existing Internet Savings account holder, you'd think it would be easier than this.0 -

Considering a few of us have had speedy action with our account opening, I'd be tempted to ring them up tomorrow if nothing is showing up, just to make sure your letter has actually reached them.0 -
I can't fault them at all. I applied for my 2nd account on a Sunday and the account was available online 8 days later. I then phoned up on a Wednesday asking for the existing account to be closed which it was the following day.
The only problem I had was my new account disappearing after the original account was closed. I then had to add it again using "Add account". This gave me a problem as I had to set up a new payee which for some reason kept giving me a "service unavailable" error.
I phoned just before 5pm tonight and went through it with their helpline. At first we could not work out what the problem was until I mentioned just having recently closed an account but still using the same login details. Apparently the system still recognised my payee as having already been set up and would not let me do so again even though I now had no access to them.
I was told that a call would be raised to fix this issue. Around 90 minutes later they called back to say it had been fixed and I should now be able to set up the payee which I now have.
So a slight hiccup but all resolved pretty quickly.
Best make sure your payees are still there or that you can set up new ones with no problem.0 -

I think Tesco's are single handedly trying to rid the world of trees! To date, husband has had 5 letters requesting his signature for the Instant Access Savings Account (only opened for the clubcard points), and 2 letters requesting his DOB (on ringing they already had his DOB from the application, but needed it to be confirmed in writing, again, because although they'd received his application, it hadn't been scanned into their system and was now lost). After complaining to them they promised to give him 1,000 clubcard points for the inconvenience, which haven't yet materialised on the clubcard statement. They'll probably end up in the same place as all of the "mis-placed" returned forms.
