Wanadoo made this offer...........

Silversurfer,
If you can stretch your finances a little and can fork out £85 up front (ADSL modem and BT setup charge) you can get broadband with metronet for£10+vat per month (200mb) (others available). Alternativley go with one of the mainstream all-inclusives for about £18 p/m. The beauty of metronet is it's only a 3 month contract, you're then free to migrate or switch off.
You get your phone line back for use of phone calls, your always online and you can use your pc to make free calls to anyone with a pc using Skype or similar software.
£14.99 for dialup is criminal these days.0 -
I COMPLETELY forgot to say what I had intended. Fast4.net said they would be happy to wait for my custumn just in case there is a special offer. That tells me there MIGHT be.
Well if you're interested I am too
I'm with Wanadoo too and should be on Broadband in July (or nearabouts) so any advice you can pass on will be gratefully received.
Not that I have a problem with Wanadoo - it just seems expensive compared to everyone else.

Decision made !. I will migrate to fast4net within a few days. I've transferred my "saved important emails by sending them elsewhere. I will daily look at fast4net website to look for special offer. I might even phone them to enquire.
What I have done is lost a bit of information regarding the actual cross-over from wanadoo to fast4net. Do I tell wanadoo that I would like to cancel on such a date, and then inform fast4net of this ?. Is there likely to be a period when I have NO provider, or do they both exist at the same time ?.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Why don't you change from Wanadoo monthly to Wanadoo pay as you go. Use this PAYG to access the net when Fast4.net is busy.
Give notice to cancel the monthly account and continue using it till it finishes. Fast4.net is activated very quicklywhen you apply.

if you sign up with fast4 first you can start using it. you can then cancel with other provider and that way you will not be without an isp, remember you will have to be on-line to sign up with fast4.
i used fast for for a few months and found them ok, did have a few times that could not connect but thats all !0 -
Why are you all paying for ISP'S there are lots of free iSP'S out there, you just need to register with them, they then download the installer package for you and this sets the dialup connection, i use this at home and works fine, you just pay for the phone usage this is for a none broadband connection, you will probably be able to use your broadband connection but will have to be setup by someone who knows how to

why? free isp? at 1p a min. thats less than 12 hours a month, 3 hours a week.
£6.99 with fast4 gives unlimited time.
do not download any installer, or use a disc, no need, all you need is a username & password to access the net.0 -

Since the new year I have found it very difficult to get onto fast4.net in the evening, it's fine during the day.
I have been looking at Metronet as suggested by SURFNLURK but I have no idea how to go about setting up for Broad Band. Their cost seem very good.
Metronet give you a long list of suppliers of the hardware needed. No details of costs.
Is there a link on this site which could give me the necessary information on the hardware and prices, value for money etc, or could someone advise me please?

i use metronet.
you require a adsl modem (£12) or a router (£35) a filter for each phone (£3) or a filtered line box. (£18 from adsl nation)
ebuyer is best place for prices, find them hard to beat.
i use a router which is a better option, as it allows adsl to really always be on. and allows more than 1 pc to connect to the internet. a modem in/or attached to your pc will only work if pc is switched on, so you will have to log in each time like a dial-up. a router has a hardwall firewall also.
if you fit a filtered line box you do not need a filter on each phone.0 -
hi all
i used to work for wanadoo cust service, and well the people employed there dont really give a about the customers like most call centres what you can do is ring up and tell them that since u dont use the service a lot you want to go on to their payg service they will put you thru to cancellations who in return offer you a anytime lite package which is 6.99 a month and they says its limited to 30 hours online, well they got no way of tracking ur usage on the dial up so in affect you can really use it for as long as u want.
also a way to get a free couple of months from them would be to ring in and tell them your computers broke down and its going to be a few weeks before it is up and running again and could they put your account on hold they will credit your account with a free month, you can carry on using the internet free for a month this works with most isps. as im on tiscali and have done it.
hope this helpsGod made man, man made money, money made man mad0 -
Hi. As I opened this thread and did those things I quoted and you have just advised, can I take this opportunity to advise you that Wanadoo's 30hr per month limit they call Light User, has now ceased.
It is a case of £14.99 per month, take it or leave it.........................unless of course, you or indeed anyone else knows different. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
