    Hi MM,

Well done on the ebaying! Just on to post a short one as I'm just finished 2 x 12.5 hour shifts and I'm fit for bed :)

Sorry to hear that you're having to move - landlords can be a right royal pain in the behind!

I've been renting since I was 17 (nearly 10 years now) and I've had two landlords out of ten who haven't been complete shysters. When my GF and I left our last flat in Edinburgh before moving to London the landlords left an eight page list of cleaning instructions and our first flat in London was actually repossessed from our landlord... who hadn't actually mentioned the fact that he was in financial difficulties

As far as viewings go, I don't think there's really that much that you can do to stop them happening, as most tenancy agreements stipulate that the landlord can obtain access whenever with 48 hours notice. I agree with you that you're better off out of there...

Now I'm all annoyed thinking about landlords - really should start saving for a deposit :D

The legal right to 'quiet enjoyment' over-rides anything a landlord chooses to put in the contract about viewings or inspections. This issue comes up time and time again on the 'Renting' board and both professional landlords and solicitors have confirmed this. The only time a landlord or his representative can gain access is in an emergency. Many tenants wouldn't refuse permission at reasonable times, but it is an option you have.

I bow to your superior knowledge :)

Regardless, it would seem somewhat unreasonable to try and block viewings if you knew that you were going to be moving anyway. After all, the landlord can usually serve notice as agreed in the tenancy agreement and I can't see any real need to try and stop them (unless it was a scenario where they wanted 5 viewings a day!)

    Hi,
To be honest, apart from the fuss, moving may be a good thing. We won't stand in the way of viewings but may ask if they can be limited at the weekend as this is the only time we have to relax.

Been busy with the paperwork for the new place. I have also been writing a letter to the bank to reconsider our hardship case and have some forms to fill in for a ppi reclaim.

There was someone over on the renting board who wanted a long let but the landlord wants to sell up ... she is now having to move a week before she is due to give birth! I have also heard tell of estate agents showing up unannounced which is unacceptable. I am pleased that Myopic Moo has found somewhere cheaper and in a nicer area so all's well that ends well! :T

Not much to report today. More SOs set up, especially now my new card has been courriered to the house after the bank accidentally cancelled it!

Been really busy today with GCSE results and more spreadsheets (not the fun MSE ones!).

No post, which is a pity.

  • Just catching up. Shame about your landlord and probs your having there.

Good luck with the PPI & CCA chasing.

Oh and congrats with the exam results:T
  • Morning all,

I am going to be rather sporadic on here as I go back to work tomorrow. Been fairly busy dashing about but now have 3 councils agreeing our payments and 6 of our other creditors have also agreed!

There are still several that have not responded yet, but I think they will eventually - in any case, if they don't provide bank details we can't pay them.

I think I now have the definitive amount we owed at the lightbulb moment - I have included this year's council tax as well as officially we do owe it. So the amount was (menacing drumroll please) £54613.92 :eek:.

However, now it is being dealt with it is much less scary.

Paid £765.60 today, so it has come down already!! :j

I've also started ebaying anything that is not nailed down to help with the costs of the move - after the move any I make can go to our debts. So far I have made £72, so that is going much better than I thought.

Must go, I have to tax the cars!
