Well said ticklemouse! I will be donating in my local oxfam shop tomorrow! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
Jan grocery challenge £35.77/£1200 -
Thanks for the "Gift Aid" info. I didn't know about it, but have just made a donation to Unicef and clicked the gift aid box.
I can't believe the taxman takes any cut from money that is much needed somewhere for those in real need >:(
LLWe are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................0 -

in the que to donate at the bank a lady was chatting and said she could only afford 2.00 was that acceptable,
I said yes even a £1. will do so even if you are up against it at the moment consider doing a donation whereby the family all give what they can afford, you will be surprised at how much you raise.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -

I beleive in the goodness of us all and think people do want to help. so lets all do it. Like others have said we spend money on *things* that dont make us happy in the long term, lets try and make a difference to people who have lost everything and their most precious reasons to be alive. We owe it to ourselves to do the right thing and to echo someone elses sentiment our leaders are only reflections of our will so lets start with ourselves and others will follow, i beleive its already happening.stay lucky!
Steve. huh? who the hell is steve??0 -
I used this link
http://www.dec.org.uk
but at the moment it's not working well because of 'high volume of traffic' which is good to hear. There's a phone number to call though and it's still worth looking because you'll see that it's an umberella agency of various charities, so the money they raise is spread.
Like you all, I have been moved to tears, twice - one seeing the news reports and feeling for all the victims of this appalling tragedy and once when I asked my husband if it would be ok to donate £x, because he is the sole earner in our house and could do gift aid too, and he (a man who usually believes charity begins at home) said £x wont get them very far, you'd better send them £xxxx. I've never seen him moved so much by anything like this
Something like this really makes you appreciate your own family's safety and what we are able to do for ourselves.
Well done Martin for the donation from this site0 -
thanks for the help....done now.....
anyone out there that hasn't done so, go ahead.... if every MSE'er donated just 1pound, then we'd go a hell of a long way to helping these people!!
do it.....pleeeeeeese!0 -
NB
Sorry I had to come back and add to my post above - I thought afterwards that it didn't come out quite how I meant it to sound - it's not what amount you donate that counts, it's that you give whatever you can, however large or small, and with a willing heart, that's what matters
Children's money box funds, pocket money for a few days or a few pence from someone on a very low income, it'll all help people who have nothing, and someone representing https://www.dec.org.uk was saying on tv today that 99p from every £1 will bring relief to people who need it0 -
An important request has been placed on the 1st page of MSE Click here I don't ordinarily check the main site regularly, but simply follow the Money Tip links. So click, read & absorb. All the important information can be found at this page.

LL
He doesn't (well, not as far as I know!)
If you give £10 but don't tick the box for Gift Aid, the charity gets £10. The taxman doesn't take any cut of it at all.
IF you tick the gift aid box, the charity gets £10 + £2.80, which comes from the tax you paid when you got the money as income (if that makes any sense?)
I always donate things in my mum's name as I don't earn enough to pay income tax.0
