TSUNAMI APPEAL

Options
I know there are other threads about this and Martin wants to donate the site's charity money to the appeal, which I support, but I just wanted to say this..

DO YOU REALLY NEED THAT BARGAIN?

Do you really really need that new pair of shoes, computer game or electrical item?

I can't sleep. My 5 year old has just come in but tonight I'm glad. I can hug him. I saw a couple on tv carrying the bodies of two of their young childen, who were about the same age as mine. It brought it home.

Let's give some of that money we've all saved to those who need it. I was going to go shopping tomorrow and my credit card's still going to take a big hit - but not in town. I don't need any new clothes or CD's. I have my family and my home. Come on friends, let's do it.

My love and prayers go out to those people and I'm crying as I type. Make that call NOW

If you are a UK taxpayer please ensure that you are donating via Gift-Aid as otherwise the charities won't be able to claim the 28p tax you've already paid for every £1 you donate.

    Thanks for the reminder Alan.

Might be an idea for someone in a 'higher position' than us, say like someone who appears on our television ;) asking some of the larger suppliers that a lot of us use, i.e Tesco, Boots etc, could induce us to spend more by offering a percentage of what we spend to the appeal too?

As far as supermarkets, etc, are concerned us customers are the most important people, without us they would not make their huge profits & they would not exist. Perhaps it's up to us to ask them what they are planning to do to help the people caught up in this tragedy. Children are donating their pocket money, drug companies need to donate medical supplies, etc & supermarkets & the like donate whatever they can, it really is up to us all.

Well said Ticklemouse. Even after seeing it on the news I cannot begin to imagine the sheer hell these people have & will continue to go through. I try not to take things for granted but at times like this I am so grateful that my loved ones are safe & well.

Thanks for the reminder re gift aid. Fortunately it does ask you if you wish to donate via this but I did need a reminder.

My donation has been given and I hope everyone else has done likewise whether via a site or phone call or other means. Our money is desperately needed..........................please help. Thank you.
  • :)Ticklemouse, what a heartfelt appeal and so very true! I was at my local Asda today, (needed loo roll) I was amazed at the amount of lager and spirits people were buying for new year, I know its a big day but it just made me think, how much good that money could have done in Asia ???

I'm not saying everyone should abandon their celebrations for new year, but perhaps buy one less bottle of spirits and donate the £10-20 to Asia instead!

I went into my local Oxfam shop and gave a cash donation. They gave me a receipt but asked for my name and address and mentioned the Gift Aid scheme.

A very easy way to try to help.
