For heavens sake, what price common sense! All my names were on the passport it was only the ticket in my middle name was used.

So your ticket didn't match your passport - right? If so then 'what price' to have booked the ticket correctly in the first place? Bob Smith =/= John Smith

As it happens, I am having a dreadful time with the passport office at the moment! They say I have to get a Statutory Declaration stating that I changed my name in August 05!!! without this they refuse to issue a new passport.

Only if you are trying to change the name on your passport. Not if you want it reissued with the same name.

So, in other words I have to LIE!!!!in order to get a passport! I have NEVER changed my name, only used the names in a different order!

So you are saying you are going to commit passport fraud? That's honestly not a great idea. If you haven't actually changed your name then you cannot (should not) get a passport with a different name which is not yours.

I offered to send them copies of my Council Tax bill, Pension Statement, Bank statements Water gas bills etc. showing what I was known by, NONE of these were acceptable!

Of course not, none of those make any effort to find out what your actual name is - they are more than happy for you to use your given name rather than your actual name. I assume the electoral roll is different, and more in line with the passport office.

I am DAMNED sure If I belonged to a so called ethnic minority group there would be no problems! but as I am, and always have been a law abiding tax paying individual, it seems they enjoy causing problems out of nothing
    and YES I am FURIOUS
    (rant over:cool:)

It's not racism, it's a simple case of your passport reflecting your actual name, and not the name you prefer to go by.

If you want your name changed then why not simply pay and get it changed?

  • Thanks for people's contributions. I had to phone easyjet anyway, about something different, and I actually spoke to a really nice and helpful person in their horribly named 'customer experience department'. He said that he too was called by his second name, and changed my name on the flights for free (should have been about £22 per flight). Sweet :)

Malkie76 I was going to reply in detail to your post but on second thoughts have decided I won't waste my time....... Your sanctimonious attitude says it all, is you can't understand that I usually, no ALWAYS have been called by my middle name and have all my bills etc are in that name. I have had 6 passports in all, and most of them are in different Christan name order, I have never had a problem until THIS time.
People with an attitude like you irritate me beyond endurance:mad:

Glad you got it sorted. We often here very negative posts about the low cost airlines on this board but nice to know that they do get it right sometimes!

lol - you might be right.

OP says 'Easy'jet. I've only flown with them once, and had no problems. However, I usually fly with KLM or BA, and although I've had many wrongly named tickets as described, with these airlines it's not a problem :)

Well i have had issues with BA regarding this.

You might always be called by your middle name, but that isn't your name. The name order on your passport will always have been the same unless you had it officially altered.

Sorry that you think I'm displaying an attitude, however I'm merely pointing out facts. I'm not sure why you think you can have the rules bent to suit your needs.

To the OP - I'm glad things are sorted for you :)

I think you MIGHT be unlucky if its with Easyjet. I also am known by my middle name rather than what is on my passport, and before, I always used the name I am known by on my ticket reservation. On flying out from Bristol I didn't have a problem, but flying back from Spain they said I couldn't fly as the names were different! and would have to get another ticket. For heavens sake, what price common sense! All my names were on the passport it was only the ticket in my middle name was used.

My brother is known by his middle name (for example his name is John David Smith, but he calls himself David) but he got a passport in the name of David John Smith, despite his birth certificate being different.

No idea how he did that - didn't sign a stat declaration or anything either.

is known by his middle name

But only people who know them know that, the airline, customs and immigration don't know that, they only know what is in their passport.

I mentioned it merely as a passport query in response to gatita's post and not as a ticketing issue x

Seeing as the OP's full name (including middle name) was on his passport I doubt it would have been a problem at check in.
