Flight booked using middle name

Options
Hi,

A friend booked a flight for me with easyjet. I've always been known as John, but this is my middle name. My full name is Andrew John Patterson, and this is what is written on my passport, but the flight has been booked as John Patterson. I don't want to (and really can't afford!) to pay to change the name on both flights. Will it be acceptable for me to fly using these tickets?

Cheers for any advice,

John

No. You'll need a name change. People here have been recently reporting denying boarding due to ticket and passport not matching.

If you're currently a bit short on cash, are your flights absolutely necessary? Are you likely to incur further costs while away somewhere which you could avoid by staying at home?

I dont see a problem with this. I fly regularly in and out of Europe (to/from the Middle East) and I seem to have a different variation on my name every time :) The only 'difficulty' I've had is the confusion when phoning the airline without the booking details to hand. I give my surname, and they say "nobody under that name is booked". So I ask them to check my christian name as a surname or vice versa; that usually gets it! :)
    Good luck.

I suspect if it is a cash strapped no frills airline it will be.

    Which airline is it?

lol - you might be right.

OP says 'Easy'jet. I've only flown with them once, and had no problems. However, I usually fly with KLM or BA, and although I've had many wrongly named tickets as described, with these airlines it's not a problem :)

I'm sure there was a thread similar to this recently, I tried to find it to link to it for information, but couldn't find it.

Oh it is easyJet, definitely a problem, check the cost of a new ticket before doing a name change.

  • There was a post about this recently. The guy put his middle name as his first name and got denied and wants to complain about it.

Why would you put your middle name as your first name (unless it was a mistake). People should know that when booking flights the name should ALWAYS match the name on the passport.

But people use middle names without telling their friends, some people use names that aren't their name at all.

I think you MIGHT be unlucky if its with Easyjet. I also am known by my middle name rather than what is on my passport, and before, I always used the name I am known by on my ticket reservation. On flying out from Bristol I didn't have a problem, but flying back from Spain they said I couldn't fly as the names were different! and would have to get another ticket. For heavens sake, what price common sense! All my names were on the passport it was only the ticket in my middle name was used.

As it happens, I am having a dreadful time with the passport office at the moment! They say I have to get a Statutory Declaration stating that I changed my name in August 05!!! without this they refuse to issue a new passport. So, in other words I have to LIE!!!!in order to get a passport! I have NEVER changed my name, only used the names in a different order! I offered to send them copies of my Council Tax bill, Pension Statement, Bank statements Water gas bills etc. showing what I was known by, NONE of these were acceptable!

I am DAMNED sure If I belonged to a so called ethnic minority group there would be no problems! but as I am, and always have been a law abiding tax paying individual, it seems they enjoy causing problems out of nothing
    and YES I am FURIOUS

    That is a different name.

John Harry Smith and Harry John Smith aren't the same name.
