  • The RNID have now changed their name to "Action on Hearing Loss", and undergone a full rebranding. The site looks really nice, and a lot more modern than before!

They've got a new online hearing test too - http://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/your-hearing/look-after-your-hearing/check-your-hearing/take-the-check.aspx

If you want to try another test too, here's a couple more good ones:

Have been having problems hearing friends etc in crowded places and sometimes do not hear exactly what people have said to me so I thought I would do the test.
Could not do the RNID test on my laptop, but managed to do the Hearingdirect.com test. They indicated that I needed a hearing aid. Then went onto home desk top computer managed to do the RNID test and came out with normal hearing????????????? What is that all about then? Are Hearingdirect.com a reputable company or are they just trying to get you to buy their wares? Anybody used this company before?
Really dont want to waste GPs time if I dont have to.

Trying to flog their wares? What do you think lol.

If you have concerns then you are not wasting you're GP's time, these tests are purely a guide, not a diagnosis. As stated on the RNID site "It is a hearing check rather than a full hearing assessment so we therefore encourage anyone who is concerned about their hearing check result to seek more detailed advice from a GP or audiologist"
  • I did the hearing test on post #1 and came out below normal hearing :(

Then did what sounded like exactly the same test on the 0845 number - and came out within normal range of hearing!

    *puzzled*
  • At least I am normal in something. :)
