What is this all about?[/title]The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), the UK's hearing charity, has developed a free online hearing check so that anyone who's worried about their hearing can see if they need to see their doctor.
We originally included this freebie in the email in August 2009 - it's still available so we thought it worth a reminder.
The test assesses your ability to hear someone speaking when there’s background noise, similar to being in a crowded room, and only takes 5 minutes.
The check is to help people who have hearing loss and encourage them to take action, it is not a full hearing assessment.

How to take the test
[/title]Go to the RNID Hearing Matters site and click 'Take the online hearing check'.
You can also do the check by phone, by calling 0844 800 3838 (calls from a BT landline cost up to 5p per minute. Other providers' charges may vary. Call set up charge may apply).
During both the online and telephone checks, you will hear a voice saying three randomly generated numbers about 30 times, eg "The digits 1, 4, 9". You need to type in the numbers you have heard (or think you've heard
) to get an idea of your hearing ability and any action you can take.
The test isn't designed for children, those with known hearing problems or those who use hearing aids.

The hearing check is not intended for people with known hearing loss, or who use hearing aids. If you use hearing aids and you still want to take the hearing check, you should remove them before taking the hearing check. Remember, however, that the hearing checks are designed to help identify people who have hearing loss and encourage them to take action.
This hearing check will not cover all aspects of hearing nor is it a medical diagnosis. It cannot assess your ability to understand speech through hearing aids. If you would like a full hearing assessment, visit your GP and ask for a referral to the ENT or Audiology department at your local hospital.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Hi ailuro2
I've tried it in Opera 9 and the test is loading up fine for me. Have you got Adobe Flash Player installed? You can do a Flash Player version check to see if you have got that installed for Opera by googling "is adobe flash player installed on opera". From this check I knew I had version 10 installed.
