Hi, I have naturally pale skin, but to be honest I pretty much St Tropez everyday so have always a bit of a light tan and like to use bronzers over foundation.
I always go for darker colours, do you think they may not work? I rarely buy anything in a light colour?
I don't wear very dark brown or any dark shades of red, green or purple because they wash me out. Certain shades of navy do too, especially as a block colour.
I can wear black and most navy shades fine. I think lostinrates is right, it really depends on you personally. When you're shopping, hold things up to your face and look in a well-lit mirror to see how they look - I find some dark shades really highlight the circles under my eyes and the vein on my face! So I avoid them.
I tend to buy warm shades for cardigans - I've stocked up on a mustard yellow, a mid-brown and a light beige recently, and find they go really well with anything. I also have a dusky pink and a light grassy green.
All this said, sometimes I just buy things I like in colours I like and see how it turns out. I think navy can be softened with white, chocolate brown with yellow (as I'm wearing today), red with cream... etc. Just go for things you think look pretty and see how you fare!0 -
Well trinny and susannah (who I don't normally rate that highly but think are right on this) say that anyone can wear any colour as long as they get the right shade.
For example olive green might not suit you but lime green might.
Apparently it is all about whether you are warm toned or cool toned.
Trouble is I don't know which I am! I've got olive skin, pale green eyes and mid brown hair so tick boxes in each category..............
I haven't found a shade of green I can't wear yet but know that orange is never going to work and yellow is risky!!!0 -
The one by Hunts Cross Asda - it's really close to work and although you have to wade through a load of crap, I've managed to get some really nice (and dramatically reduced price) stuff in there.
lol:rotfl:i live over the road from that one....i was there today, and yesterday:rotfl:Sometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -

Apparently you can tell if you're warm or cool skinned by looking at the veins on your wrists. If you have more blue veins, you're cool toned. If you have more green veins you're warm toned. I'm cool as I have bluey veins, and I have pink tones in my skin too.0 -

Yep blue veins mean you have pink undertones, while green veins mean yellow undertones. But thought the warm/cool thing was the opposite to what you suggest? i.e blue viens = pink undertones = warm, and green veins = yellow undertones = cool??0 -

Oh, I'm not sure! I always thought pink was cool? Hhhmmm, maybe Google will have the answer...0 -
I think pink is cool... Wikipedia tells me so! Also, the colour yellow actually is a 'warm tone' whereas pink is a 'cool tone', so I think that's where they got their names?
Here's a handy link for colours to suit cool/warm tones: http://www.mineral-makeup-reviews.com/Cool-or-Warm-Skin-Tone.html0 -
I'd guess I'm ''warm tones''. Yellow gold/rose gold suit me better than white gold
By that measure I think a lot more people are ''warm'' than think they are.
I have very fair and pinky skin (I was told that is why most foundations look too yellow on me: that though the shade is right the tone - (most common/frequent yellowy tone) is wrong). But I think my green eyes and warm hair colour inflence the ''warmness'' too. Ultimately I wear what colours make my heart sing: that looks better than wearing what might on paper suit someone who looks just like me, IYSwIM.
I wouldn't like to call whether my veins are blue or green. I'd say they were the point where those colours meet! May be I'm cold blooded and there fore my tone can be warm or cold influenced by the colours I'm wearing :rotfl::T0 -
Dont want to take off topic, but can someone advise.:o
Never used YSL touche eclat, but do they only have two shades available? and which is the colour best suited to dark circles on olive skin? I tested the colours a few years back but just remember thinking it was too orange? lastly where can I get it online or otherwise the cheapest?0 -

I think they have more than two shades. I buy 1, but I'm very fair so I'd think an olive skin would be more like 4? I've bought from eBay in the past, but last time I used https://www.cheapsmells.com and it was even cheaper! Quick and reliable delivery too.
Touche Eclat is my miracle product. Hope you find a shade that suits!
LIR - I love your phrase there, colours that make your heart sing. That's so, so true. Like our previous conversation about yellow! I adore it, it makes me so happy!0
