Have just read through this thread and am amazed at the kindness of people on these boards! Good to know that there are some decent people out there
Hope you manage to sort something out with getting your deposit back.0 -
What an incredible, heart warming thread. This must be the most supportive of all the MSE boards. I'm stunned at all the offers of donations, bearing in mind that they will involve the sender in packing, queueing at the Post Office etc.
It sounds like you are well sorted foodwise now, but all I wanted to say while reading right through and thinking it might come up, is buy yourself a packet of Basics or Smart Price digestive biscuits for about 30p, you get loads and a couple are really handy for those low sugar moments (you can dunk them into your weak tea too!).
Also when you've run out of your baking spuds, I find Smart Price instant mash is perfectly acceptable - a packet costs around 21p and does me for about six meals.
Hope things improve for you very soon, you are tackling this head on and I'm sure you will come through it a stronger and more resourceful person :T.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I have been following this thread since the beginning but forgot my password and this is the first time I have been able to post.
Broke, you seem to have all the offers you need for food etc, so I won't bother with that, although everyone here has been great and deserve a mention. *Hugs* to everyone.
Whereas you say you are rubbish with legal and finance organization it is pretty much the only thing I am good at, (doesn't stop me being in debt personally but I am great helping other people lol) If you need any advice or help with the CAB / deposit thing I am happy to help in anyway I can, I am not a professional in these areas I may add, just an enthusiastic amateur who hates to see people screwed over, and remember if you don't follow it up she will just do the same to some other poor person.Aug 24 - Mortgage Balance £242,040.19

I've only come on here tonight to mention the smart price mash! it's brilliant, first time OH cooked for me he used that, I don't think I'd have tried it otherwise. Throw in a bit of milk and butter, if you can, or just salt and pepper (or wholegrain mustard if you get any) millions times better than the big name instant mash and you get loads, I think we get 2 meals out of one bag for 19p!0

Hi all,
Well. As yet no response at all from landlady - have been reading up a bit about the law on this kind of thing. A lot of it may as well be in Japanese for all I understand, but I get that I need to ask her about the deposit scheme. Do I write direct to the landlady threatening court action then? (Not sure I have her address). I'm not sure about my "accidental overpayment" either - the law seems less clear on that - could she just keep it?
Last night wasn't too bad. I boiled up a little pasta - made an accompaniament by frying three chopped salad tomatoes, half an onion and half a tin of chickpeas with a spoonful of the dried chillis added for flavour (and a bit of salt). Was pretty nice - I could probably have stretched it to two meals really but I was absolutely starving by 6pm last night! (So today is beans on toast again)
BF very kindly took me out for a beer last night which was lovely of him, considering he's not exactly flush himself and will be unemployed again very soon. I also nicked some loo roll from the Ladies!
Today's going to be tricky. Boss suggested a pub lunch - I had to say that I had no money (cue usual conversation "oh I'm skint too - but the pub over the road is really cheap." - unless they do a burger and chips for 10p it's not gonna work!). Also running out of credit on my PAYG mobile and having to ration myself a bit when it comes to text messages.(I hate this - it's really frustrating not being able to share jokes, or funny things you see.)
I have a friend visiting tonight and tomorrow from "back home" - which I'm really looking forward to - but she's also very skint apparently (why does no-one I know have any spare cash?), so we need to find something free to entertain ourselves. I thought I would cook us a cheap meal tonight (She says she has a bottle of wine lleft over from Christmas that we can drink) then tomorrow go to the museum (which is free). Normally we'd go to the cinema or for a meal, but clearly that's not happening - but actually I think that's OK, as long as we get to have a bit of a chat, that's the main thing. That's what we used to do when we were teenagers existing on pocket money after all - sit around watching "Friends" videos and talking about boys...0 -
