1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Thriftlady - I read an article a long time ago that after the war, Britains greengrocers asked that no fruit trees be planted in public places as the free fruit would effect their businesses so it has become tradition to only plant ornamental trees. It's a shame though, I agree.
How interesting! I can see their point, but I think huge supermarket chains will have had a bigger impact on greengrocers than public fruit trees. Still, I was only dreaming, in an ideal world and all that.....

Seriously bored now. My family are due back tomorrow so that will cure my boredom pretty sharpish

I've got more bread on the go and I shall do some baking tomorrow -biscuits probably.

I was going to pick my crab apples today but it is wet here. There are loads falling off the tree but they bruise as soon as they hit the ground so they can't be used for anything. Pity I haven't got a pig in my garden, a pig would love them.

I'm going to pick them and shove them all in the freezer until I decide what to do with them all. I usually make crab apple jelly, but I don't want to make too much of that this year as it doesn't get used up before the next batch is made. I thought of making spiced crab apples but I'm not sure they will be that popular. I have a recipe for tomato and red pepper preserve which uses apples as a base, so I might try that. Anyone got any good ideas? Not wine, too complicated for me.

Think I'll make some leek and potato soup for lunch seeing as it's a miserable sort of day -it was lovely yesterday.

Spicy Sort-of-Spanish Hash for tea -fried potatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms with smoked paprika and fried egg on top. Yum
  • Burp - sorry to hear about nan. A horrible situation to be in, but hope all turns out for the best Hun.

MrsMW - LOL at your DH & the hedgehog!

Mioliere - hope you get good news and 'it' happens soon!

Snoozer - ((HUGS)) Hope Mum & Dad both feel better soon, and that you got your anniversary parcel and have an extra-special belated celebration soon.

Bargainbird - hope DH is OK. Really try to get him to get it checked out - head injuries can be very deceptive. When I was a 1st Aider one of my trainers had a man who wouldn't get his checked at hospital, and turned out he had a compression fracture and he nearly died! Don't want to worry you too much Hun, but I always insisted that bumps on the head got looked at by the pro's. Hope he is OK (and that the carpet recovers!).

Weather is drizzly and dull here today - shame as we prob won't get to see the perseids (sp?) tonite - typical!

Finally got to speak to the HR lady today - been playing 'telephone touch' all week. Her 'update' was actually that they have nothing to report! The 'at risk of redundnacy' is still 'on hold' while they 're-evaluate their process', and they have't set a timescale for that yet! As far as I am concerned they can take as long as they like....hopefully until the end of the year, when I can go off on my maternity leave!!!!!!

Dinner tonite will be Lasagne - got several from Lidl last week when they were on offer. I can make a fair lasagne from scratch, but I really LOVE their chilled ones, so much better than my own, and when on offer they are good value as they are full of meat. Might do some garlic bread to go with it - and of course some more tomato & cucumber salad with a bit of feta crumbled on the top, which is one of my foodie obsessions at the moment and I'm having it pretty much every day!

Too tired to get much done last nite, so had a lazy one in front of the TV, despite a dining-table full of clean washing which needs sorting & putting away - oh well, there's always tonight....

    Have a good day everyone,

    FE.

  • Good morning all,

The morning has brightened quite a bit from when we got up at 6. The rain hit here yesterday around 5pm and lasted on and off all night.

One load of laundry is in the machine with another to go. The weather forecast said on and off showers today so I'll just hang them on the airers. A bit of tidying and then hoovering to do today. So not a bad day on the home front at all.

Spag bol sauce in the SC. I'm making cannelloni tomorrow night for tea so the sauce for over it will be ready. I'll freeze another couple of portions for later this month.

Tonight's tea will be beef fajitas. DH has discovered he likes those and requested they go on the meal plan. :T Mexican rice to go with them. I couldn't find any pinto beans to make the refried beans at our Sainsbury's. I'll have to plan to get some next time I go to Morrison's or ASDA.

Celyn, the alice band is lovely.

Hope you all have a great day and that things go well for all.

    (((((((((Gentle Hugs)))))))))

    Peyton xx

How about rosemary or mint jellies, using the crab apples as the base? Would be scrummy with lamb :)

Thought I would dive in again before my hospital appt.

Mioliere - that sounds like a lovely night
MrsMW - sorry to hear you have been so poorly - shingles is really painful I know
thriftlady - you are right about the supermarkets. Back then I guess the govt were trying to help grocers trying to get their businesses back on track after the war. But I did like your version of an ideal world!
Burp - sorry to hear about your gran. *hugs* to you honey.

    Afternoon all

Absolutely no OS today so far - took toddler to play in nearby woods with some friends & other small children. They all loved climbing & getting mucky!

Got loads of ironing to do, dining room to finish de-junking & my bedroom to start on. Pleasant weather - fine & sunny, but a bit breezy - good drying weather but I'm up to date with washing, typical!

Tea's not been christened yet, something quick & easy, pasta bake maybe, & need to bake after tea.

Have a good afternoon, hope all the poorlies & those with bad news are OK soon,

    A xo

Made a home made loaf this morning and have a pot of sweet potato soup simmering so DDs can have that tonight.

DH is just about to drive us 90 miles away to see elderly auntie in hospital who has had second and more severe stroke.

DDs planning menu for special dinner tomorrow so want me out of the way.

    Hugs to everyone.

    Afternoon all.

:eek:Bargainbird I really do think your DH should get himself checked at the hospital.

((((Burp)))) I hope your Gran is at least comfortable.

Typical! Yesterday I didn't do any washing and it was brilliant sunshine. I put the WM on overnight last night, and today it's tiddling down! Good job I gave the bathroom a scrub yesterday; I couldn't do it today as it's full of wet washing.

Mr LW has requested pizza for dins tonight, so I must remember to get a base out of the freezer.

I haven't done much this morning as I've not had the strength, but hoping to buck up a bit this afternoon.

((((HUGS)))) to all who want/need one today.

Burp - so sorry to hear about your Nan. thinking of you and your family. xx

Not kept up on things or been very OS last few days. DS2 is teething (13 months and still not a single teggie!). He's a real grumpster anyway so the teething hasn't gone down too well with him and he's screamed almost non-stop for the last few days! DS1 seems to sleep through it no probs even though the boys are in the same room but I am walking round like a zombie! Did manage to make some fruit scones last night from some milk that was going a bit funny. The dough was very sticky and hard to work with so might look for an alternative recipe. Scones turned out yummy though. Have made a big batch of spag bol today bulked out with extra grated carrot, extra tinned toms and some red lentils. Never bulked it like this before so will see how it turns out!

Hugs to anyone that needs one, sorry I haven't been keeping up.
