  • So I have left over meat on the bone. I would like to freeze it and serve it for the children on another day. Would it be ok? I've only ever frozen fresh uncooked chicken, or a curry, cooked from fresh.

    Thanks

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Well I can always defrost it, and then bake it in the oven to re-heat it for a roast!

    Thanks

I take no responsibility for upset stomachs;) but.....i have cooked roast chicken, left the leftovers to cool, remove meat from the bone, frozen it, then used in a curry. I think you'll find as long as you re-heat until piping hot it will be safe. I do this most weeks with leftover chicken. I dont always defrost it either, for a curry i dont bother. AND I'm still here to tell the tale!!;)

I also use leftover chicken with a tin of tomatoes, a few herbs, heat thoroughly and serve on top of pasta with a bit of grated cheese - kids love it!

That should be fine but make sure that the chicken is defrosted and properly re-heated after freezing. If you have any left over after doing this DON'T be tempted to re-freeze or save for another day as that is when it will get seriously dodgy on the microbial front.
Now debtfree except for the mortgage!

  • It's really bizarre, I used to have a carear in catering, yet there are still some things I have never made.
I am very aware of freezing / re-heating already cooked meats. but thanks, just in case others didn't know.
Mind you, it has made me ponder over the soup. I cooked the whole chickens, then I boiled the carcuss, then I allowed it to cool, so that I could take the bones out, and now I am boiling it up again, and then I will freeze it, and heat it up in the microwave at work.
But that's perfectly normal for a soup (isn't it???)

BTW this is the first time I have made a chicken soup, and it's a long process! Veg soup is so much easier

GW, just catching up with you.

It'srough going through job interviews and knock backs. Poor hubby. My career counsellor tells me it's basically a numbers game. Ste a target for applications a week (mine is 2, rising to one a day when this contract ends) and eventually there'll be a match.

Also, register with EVERY agency - no points for loyalty - and check totaljobs and monster websites every day. The agencies have loads of people on their books and will forget you - doesn't mean they don't think you match the job, you just have to remind them you're there.

But what helps me most os lots of hugs from b/f, which reminds me I'm still a nice person. AND it's free.

  • Emmzi,

Thanks for the support. The problem is I have to do most of the job searching, and I have to complete the forms (he's scared and feels stupid) so it's another load on my plate. you are right about the hugs, that along with special messages from the children, brighten the day for him.

Because he is a driver, there are very few jobs on the main search sites, so it is down to agency. However he has a very good relationship with a girl at one of the branches, so he has a few bits of work from them (nothing from any of the others)

    Thanks

    and good luck
