It was a big scam not long back people see 07 and assume its a mobile..

These 070 numbers phone mobiles at random, 1 ring & hangup. Hoping you call them back to see who it was.

Quids in if you phone back.

  • I got stung with an 070 number. I have my own business as a garden designer. I received a query e-mail from someone along with a phone number. I tried the number several times over a week, but each time just reached an answer machine. I just assumed the potential client was out and kept ringing. I twigged what was going on when a similar e-mail arrived a couple of weeks later!

Just this week my partner also got stung. He posted on 24/7 spares for a car part. He then rang one of the dealers with a part on offer- again he just kept getting an answer machine. He twigged after it was too late!
  • There's a list of numbers here:
homephonechoices (google it as I'm new and there's a rule on MSE which won't let me post the actual link - update 14/3/11 as of this post)

I have a 070 number for FREE from yac dot com for about 5 years or so.

I give it to websites/marketing etc things where you dont want to hand out your personal number.

Calls go straight to my personalized voicemail which I get as a mp3 in my email box!

yac obviously get their money from people calling the number.

No need to use a rip off 070 number.:D

www.sipgate.co.uk will give you a free 01/02 number with free voicemail you can use to give to people you dont want to have your main number.

There's a bunch of 07 number ranges which are not included in mobile companies "inclusive" allowances. T-mobile list the oners they currently exclude at https://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/terms-and-conditions/inclusive-allowances/
It's all too easy to get stung.

Yeah, but if you're giving it out to people that will likely sell the number on to cold-callers, why not make the cold-callers pay to waste your time?
