    couldnt read and write back!

church £50 my god this is very very expensive! maybe a breakdown of the costs would be useful, for you and other MSE users!
regarding chair covers etc- £3.50 and less for each chair seems the average price- so it will depend on how many chairs you are covering- do you defintely need these?- what do the chairs look like in your venue?
also with your table cloths- does the venue not supply these? my venue suppliers plain write ones, and then i am having table runners in my colour which are £1 a table. to give you an idea of my quote- i am having 60 chairs covered, about 9 table runners, and a top table swag for £237 set up- and then they are at a bridal fayre i am going to at my venue in september, so i am going to get them to knock it down if i book that day.

also your venue for £5050, what is that for?- is that room hire, plus food?
    hope that helps

Thanks Sammy, yeah we were pretty shocked with the church costs but its inline with the church price guidelines, cannot remember the website now. But it includes extra stuff like bells and organist etc. I think its also due to the area being quite posh, but we were lucky to be accepted as my dad lives in the parish, so I think we are paying a premium for this. It is beautiful though!

Our reception venue is a really nice restaurant in Bristol and weddings are not their main business. The price includes all meals, drinks and buffet. It was a min. spend of £4k for the day and for our numbers (80 day and 110 evening) its mounted the price up a bit. We love it as its an unusual option by the docks and the food quality is very high. However the downside is its a very trendy place and they do not provide table cloths and the chairs are not the usual and have multi-colour covers on them, so white chair covers are a must!

£237 for supply and set up sounds more alike what i expected to pay, i may follow your suit and go to a local wedding fair and see if i can haggle with the price. Is your supplier anywhere near Bristol?

hello! I am getting married on july 16th 2011. so far the church, reception, my wedding ring, menu and dress are sorted, pretty good going i think! reception food is 4 different types of sausages and 3 different types of mash and also a cold buffet, ooh and the cake(S), we are having a four tier cake stand (when I can find a cheap enough one) with three different cheesecake shop cheesecakes, and the top tier will be a traditional fruit cake, along with krispy kreme donuts for dessert!
    getting very excited now!

    Prices so far:

Vintage car from Weston quoted £310 got down to £275
Photographer is quite new to the business so £350
Hair £27.50 each and Make up £25
Church £750! Was shocked by this!
    Venue £5050

    Left to book:

Chair covers, table cloths & set up £440 so far little unhappy with this as more than any of the other suppliers so may try and haggle a little. Have you had any quotes for this?
Cake - thinking about Waitrose as they have some really nice 4 tiers chocolate cakes for £300
Flowers - quote so far £500 approx vat hikes this up quite badly but aim to book before rise in Jan 11. Most florists have quoted £50 for bouquet and £25+ for centre pieces.

    And all the rest....!

Suppliers do give me strange looks when I tell them how far off the date is, but a room has already gone in a hotel we wanted! So it cannot be too early! I just want to make it as stress free as possible by getting everything sorted, as I saw a friend a couple of months ago who was very stressed out and not enjoying the build up to her day at all.

I'm on the forums daily so keep in touch! :)

Riverstation - I love that place! Went there for Sunday lunch the other week for my birthday, it's amazing. Your food and drink will be fabulous!

We haven't looked into transport yet, but have budgeted £300 for a car - we'll only need it one way as my parents live next door to the church so I can walk there. I want to book a coach from the church to the venue as parking can be tricky in Clifton, but I've downgraded my hopes of a vintage bus to something a bit less expensive!

I bought my BM dresses yesterday from Coast with the 20% Wedding mag discount - lovely maxi dresses for 2 bridesmaids coming in at £250.

My photographer is coming in at about £600, but we're getting loads of stuff included in that, so I think that's OK. And our venue comes in about the same as yours for 80 people (100 for evening). We're not having chair covers but are making cloth hearts on ribbon for the chair backs instead. A friend is making our cake for about £150, but if we hadn't been able to do that, we would have been going for the Waitrose option too!

Thanks so much for posting your quotes, I'll let you know when I book other stuff so we can compare prices!
  • remeber its your day! and you don't want people on the pictures who in years to come (or even months!) say 'who on earth are they?!' hehe

hope you get the venue sorted

    thankyou sammy!

yep its booked now just waiting for her to reply so i can ask how many people can i fit round a table!

I get the community centre from the friday at 3pm till sunday afternoon. Just enought time to set up and clean on sunday, hopefully! just means i cant get too messy on the day! all for £250 oh and we get a proper bar service with lads in nice waistcoats and dickie bows!

So all i have booked so far is the church, venue and the caterers. Ive shortlisted my dresses' and the bridesmaids and invites.

I think im gonna have crack at the bouquet myself, my mums gonna try button holes.

my biggest problem at the mo is colour scheme!!!

i love love love royal blue, ive found some gorgeous bridesmaid dresses but how can i co-ordinate the flowers? id rather real flowers than silk/foam ones. im not sure if the colours a bit heavy for a july wedding???

i also quite like really pale green (with cream gorgeous!) and really pale aqua, very easy to co-ordinate!

    what do you guys reckon???!!:D

I'm having navy blue in july...i love blue too and will be using a lot of royal blue also.

I've gone for navy bridesmaid dresses and using different shades of blue (light and dark blues particularly blue hydrangas which are lovely) with a hint of yellow. I'm hoping the yellow will balance out the blues for summer. Something like this :
