Need £11,000 loan for a car

This thread is quite funny because its been posted on what is meant to be a money saving forum... and yet cars are the worst investments on earth.
Cars cost money to run and depreciate in value, not more so that within months of buying them.
Who in the right mind would spend 20K on somthing that will drop in value quicker than they can pay it off. Completely senseless.0 -
My view is that he should go ahead and buy the car. I'm always pleased to see people in brand new shiny cars.
This ensures that in a few years time there will be second hand ones for me to buy nice and cheap! :j:j:jDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
Right then OP if your are dead set on buying this particular car why not try a few internet dealers. I've had a quick look and www.broker4cars.co.uk are offering over £1600 off the list price and they will also offer discount on the options. You will deal with a UK main dealer for a UK spec car.
Why not have a look on something like moneysupermarket for the finance.
I would still however say there are better ways of spending 20k on a performance car - you could get a BMW E46 M3 for 10k and that is a much better vehicle.0 -
Think I would fall over in a faint if I was proposing to spend more than 2k on a car right now!
Current car cost me £461 from ebay 2 years ago.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I challenge you to find us a brand new factory order 2009 plate Sean Leon FR....with the technology pack and in yellow!!! try and find it for cheaper than the manchester branch of Seat would sell it to us!!!

Good luck when it comes time to flog it, yellow is the worst colour on the market for selling.
One dealer that I know will not touch them at any price, he says they remind him of outside lavvies.:rotfl:0 -
Has he actually got £21k in proper savings or is it just his student loan he's saved up?
If the latter, that's a good idea to use as a deposit on a house as it's low interest, but not for a car as that would be two loans for one vehicle.
Also, how the hell did he manage to save up £21k when he was at Uni (if it's not the loan...)?0 -

Nope.......OK TBH he has £21,000 in savings.....£9,000 he can spend on the car and £12,000 to put a deposit on a house.
'Tis you who has to keep up.0 -
I used to have a yellow golf, it was a great little car but in summer all the flies and wasps used to fly into it and stick to it, it was a nightmare.
OP - tell your OH that £12k is nowhere near enough for a house deposit. I suspect that he will be on MSE in a few years asking where he can obtain a 95% mortgage when his old banger is costing him hundreds every month.
I not convinced that this thread is for real anyway.0 -
Nope.......

Thank you.
Davetrousers - I have read the whole thread so know what was said. I wanted to clarify it was proper savings the OP meant and not 'student loan savings'. There is a difference!
I am truly amazed at how he has managed to come out of Uni with 21K, and just curious as to how he's done it!0
