Like me, your OH is an idiot! 5 years of slavery for a car ain't worth it! Partucularly when every chav smacks their door into it!!
Thats sooo right, it aint worth it. I spent 24k on a MINI and even though its everything to me its bloody hard work keeping it nice with the dives out there!0 -
I had a seat too, VW all over them. I think they are nice cars, it lots half of its value though from when i got it new in a year. Watch out for the condensation headlamps they all seem to suffer from it. Try moneysupermarket.com for loans.0

There are some fantastic offers out there on contract hires at the moment. The contract hire prices for a three year period are averaging less than depreciation. No deposit, you get to keep your cash and put it somewhere useful, no loan, no interest.
Contract hires for some cars are working out cheaper than 0% finance.
I know that some folk don't like them because you never own the car. But if you're paying less than depreciation, it's got me sorted.
Check out nationwide leasing as they basically price up every model of every car available.0 -
Look, let's just let him borrow up to the hilt for the damn thing, then,
when it's gone rusty and is all dented he'll be back on another section of the forum.

Is it just me or is the OPs OH a complete muppet. He has 20k in the bank and he wants to get an 11k loan for a car with 5k interest. Would it not make sense to spend the 20k on a car and save for a house deposit again at the rate you would have paid the loan back at, giving you 5k extra for a house.
OP i think youve found a real keeper there!!!!
not very bright for a graduate.
sounds like a right spoilt mummys boy0 -
I wouldn't pay that sort of money myself for a car but that's me. The original question was just about the cheapest way of financing the 55% ish that isn't covered by the deposit.
The most expensive motor I've ever bought is the one I currently have. It's an essential work van that cost me 8 grand second hand and a further 2 and a half grand to kit out (not to mention other loose tools for a couple of thousand). The only reason I bought it was because it's enabled me to almost double my turnover in the past three years and allowed me to work a lot more safely. I will still be paying for it for another 15 months yet. The most I've ever paid for a non work vehicle was 3 grand and I even baulked at that.0
