There are two posts in this thread which made me chuckle:fitzmum wrote:Uuuggghh I had exactly the same with a box of 12 Tesco cat food pouches...the bottom of a pouch had burst and there were maggots crawling everywhere inside the box - .....I threw the whole box of 12 pouches away & disinfected EVERYWHERE inside the cupboard. I can only assume that the pouch burst due to the gasses inside
So, because one pouch was burst/broken/pierced/not sealed correctly, you threw away 11 pouches, which appeared intact? In MSE terms, this means, due to 1/12 of your goods being split, you would rather throw away all of them than use the remaining 11/12ths???

If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your goods, return them, with your receipt and if you are still given short shift, then do make a legitamate complaint. All these things are covered by law.0 -
You can look up the You Tube clip of Robert Alleyne talking about it & yep, it's toxic but I guess however it's added to the food means it's not as bad, lots of stuff in pet food is horrific! I think Robert said it's something about the taste as animals are drawn to it & that's why it was used, though i'd have to watch again to check0

Ah, also you would never get a pet food like Baker's listing what really goes into their foods, who'd buy it!?

Well say reimbursement then as the C word drives people mad.0 -
This does happen a lot unfortunately. I used to work nights in Tesco years ago and it was a weekly occurrence to find a crate covered in maggots from a dented can or burst pouch.
With the pouches, lazy cage fillers stack tins on top in the warehouse, they are then loaded onto lorries and shipped, stored in the back of Tesco for a while then filled. Gives everything time to ferment shall we say.....0 -

Why when things like this happen do some people automatically think "This can net me easy Money" and tell people to seek compensation. I'm sure Tesco never intended to sell Maggot infested pet food. No one and no company are perfect. There are two posts in this thread which made me chuckle:
Was it really, "exactly the same" ?

I guess both of you must be fishermen and are used to dealing with maggots :rotfl: I have a cat and buy various cat foods depending on the offers because my cat will eat anything, but let me tell you if i opened a pouch/can and there was MAGGOTS I would chase the suppliers to hell and back................. If anyone thinks I would wipe clean 11 pouches cos one had burst around it then tough..... I paid for 12 sealed.......... The supplier can clean the other 11 and resell...............0 -

No idea on that but it wouldn't suprise me in the slightest!0 -
I thought you were going to say you'd found maggots in the carpet under the cat food bowl - _pale_ it happened to me many years ago, my first flat, didn't think to put down a tray, one of the cats must have knocked a bit of wet food out and under the space where you pick older type plastic bowls up - sure enough it was warm, there was a fly in the kitchen, and later there were what looked like little bits of rice which were fly eggs - they would have turned into maggots if left.
Years later we now use bowls with no space for anything to get in unseen, and wet food always gets put into a bowl on a tray.
This year because it's such a hot summer our cat is onto dry food as there seemed to be extra flies buzzing around earlier than usual this year, and she's an awful cat for going off and not finishing her food.
So far it has worked, she can go back to wet food when the weather gets cooler.
I'm sure Tesco will make good the loss from the cat food.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Well I didn't expect this kind of debate, but a little surprised to see I'm not alone with finding extra's in the food.
I was never from the start after compensation, just concerned others might find the same.
I nipped into the local store with the very smelly offending product as per instructions from Head Office. The staff were disgusted too but very helpful. They gave me a new cat bowl and I got to chose any cat food of my choice to replace it. I chose a single tin of tuna felix and was quite happy to pay the difference which the lady said no I don't have to, this along with the bowl, I didn't have to pay for.
For those who don't know Tesco is going 48 sachets of felix / 24 tins of the same for £10 just now as part of a pet even by the looks of things.
This info might also help others.
The food was supposed to be sent off to be tested, but it won't be, the staff took it to be destroyed there and then which going by the stench was totally understandable.
I'll never know if it's a one off or not, but certainly won't be buying it again.
**Many thanks to the staff at Kingsway, Dundee Store for their help with this and the lady I spoke to at Head Office.**0
