Maggots in cat food

Options
Hi folks,

Just a note to pre warn anyone who has recently bought Tesco Supreme Salmon Cat food in the little foil trays to check it carefully before the feed their !!!!! as the one I opened last night was infested with LIVE MAGGOTS!

I've contacted Tesco Head Office and I've to take the offending food including maggots to my local store.

The girl on the phone felt sick and I don't know what the person on the customer service is going to be like when I say I'm giving them live maggots back.

(It's currently bagged and sitting at the top of my wheelie bin right now waiting on going back.)

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: oh my!!!

    thats disgusting!!!

how would they react i wonder if this was in human food??! Im pretty sure that all animal food sold in supermarkets needs to be fit for human consumption... this one clearly wasnt suitable for the cat, nevermind people. I hope you get some adequate compensation for this!

Was the lid on properly etc?

Compensation, I'm not worried about at all, although I'd like them to supply me with a new bowl for kitty as the bowl is in the bag along with the food - there was no way I was going to empty it!

As for it being sealed, when I opened it, there was no sign of it being tampered with and there didn't appear to be any breaks in the seal at all.

The cat food did appear to be mushier than normal though if that makes sense.

It could be due to bad storage in this hot weather, as it doesn't take long for food to turn in the heat & become infested. Yukk!

What a horrid thing to find though. I expect puss will be gettting fresh salmon & chicken in future.:rotfl:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Uuuggghh I had exactly the same with a box of 12 Tesco cat food pouches...the bottom of a pouch had burst and there were maggots crawling everywhere inside the box - the smell was disgusting.....I threw the whole box of 12 pouches away & disinfected EVERYWHERE inside the cupboard.

The box was only opened the day before & I didn't notice it then. I can only assume that the pouch burst due to the gasses inside.....

Sadly not, pet food can & does contain things like antifreeze, cooking oil, engine oil, !!!! bits of animals like the claws & beak & lots of things that are carcinogenic & banned for humans & e-numbers etc (Hence why things like Bakers are totally rubbish!)

However, while maggots are no doubt better than alot of what's in some foods, they shouldn't be there! Think i'd be sick seeing that

Why when things like this happen do some people automatically think "This can net me easy Money" and tell people to seek compensation. I'm sure Tesco never intended to sell Maggot infested pet food. No one and no company are perfect.

I will never buy Tesco's home brand pet foods again.

The dog food gave me dog awful wind but the cat food, that's a different story.

On 3 different occasions I had been forced to buy Tesco cat food pouches and each time after getting home I said to my mate "Remind me never to get that stuff again!" Like other people have complained about, the food is suspect to say the least. One box I bought had all the same flavour in them (all 12 pouches) and one box had 3 swollen pouches in because the food was off. Unfortunately, one pouch had burst seeping a foul smelling mush all over every pouch and all over the box, which left me feeling horribly nauseous and couldn't do anything other than throw the whole box in the bin. If I didn't have a routine with putting cat food away in a certain place, I dread to think what would have been living in that box when I opened it.

    Never again!!!!
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

    Was this aimed at me?

When i said compensation, i didnt mean "easy money", i simply meant reimbursement and a sincere apology. I'm not a money grabber thank you very much

Also i think i was right, re the fit for human consumption simply for the reason that a label could come off a can and a person could eat it by mistake

    In the UK:
All ingredients used for pet food has to be fit for human consumption according to EU requirements. But regulations require that pet food that contains by-products be labeled as "Not for human consumption" even though such by-products have to be derived from animals declared fit for human consumption

Hmm well I don't consider sunset yellow/antifreeze/engine oil/cooking oil fit for a Dog let alone a human! And nobody will eat pet food by mistake!
  • There's no anti-freeze in any pet food that I know of, as it's toxic and can kill even in small doses. Any links to show offending brand/products with that list of ingredients UKTigerlily?
