he also said this one which is the "W" version is also just as good
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=13432&ra=true#
now i'm confused which one to buy.

You've put the same link in twice.
I guess the first one was supposed to be the Garmin 205?
I've got a Garmin 250 which is an older version with European mapping. It's an excellent device, just as good as a Tom Tom. Personally I prefer the Garmins to Tom Toms but there's not a lot between them. They're the two market leaders.
I'd say get the Garmin if it's cheaper although personally I wouldn't bother with the wide version. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Rather than mount on windscreen with the tell tale marks, obstruction of view and sometimes difficult reach, might I recommend one of these or similar http://www.buybits.com/product/sku_5027.aspx (other companys sell them too at differing prices and shapes) to which the satnav affixes and is placed on top of dashboard at a safer position of choice.
I have never had one move at all when driving, braking, cornering, accelerating etc. Just stows away under seat, in glovebox or boot when not in use.0 -
