Question for overweight women.

It doesn't matter whether you're deliciously-slim or "traditionally-built", clothes which don't suit you or don't fit properly will make you look like a sack of spuds and feel ruddy miserable. The tiniest bit of effort will repay you in spades on the self-esteem front and that should give you the incentive to do a bit more if you want to. No need for fancy false-nails if they are clean and well-filed sortofthing.
Never forget that a smile and a positive attitude is worth more than millions in the bank but don't tell that to Victoria Beckham0 -
I'm overweight and i do wear makeup nearly everyday (i say nearly-on bad days i don't leave my room). Its a confidence thing. I think i think (naively perhaps) that if i have nice make up etc on then people will see that and not just see me and think "what a fat !!!!!".This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I know what you mean about other 'big' women just looking good in whatever they wear.
A lady i know is a lot bigger than me and just looks fab in everything, however i feel some days that i just look horrid in whatever i put on.
I don't wear make up every day, i've got better about that over time, ex if i am purely just going to the gym them i don't bother.
My hair i always keep nice, if i can't afford to get it coloured, i'll always find the money to keep it trimmed and in a nice style, then sometimes just put a shop bought dye of it to spruce it back up a bit.
Doing weight watchers has given me a lot of confidence though, having lost just over 2 stone so far has changed me a lot. Also a fellow member at my meeting having lost 4 stone so far is an amazing 'pick me up' to help you continue, just the knowing that people do loose that much weight as opposed to just reading about it in a magazine.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
i can not really control my weight as i have PCOS which is a nightmare.
i am overweight myself and i only wear tracky bottoms and t shirts with no make up, the last time i had my hair done was in 2006.
i would love to change but as i have 3 under 5 so i dont even think of making the effort, lets face it the only time i go anywhere is to take them to nursery or school, shopping or the park.
once in a while i do straighten my hair, wack a bit of make up on and put some nice clothes on. and the comments i get are unbeliveable HAVE YOU LOST WEIGHT< HAVE YOU HAD A BOOB JOB< SECOND LOOKS TO MAKE SURE ITS ME< YOU LOOK WELL YOUNG ETC ETC
i would say to anyone if you want a boost get upstairs have a nice bath, straighten your hair, wack some makeup on, give your boobs a lift in good bra, put some trousers and a nice top on and then see the reactons you get.
i do not have the time everyday to do it but it sure helps when i do.0 -
Sizewise I'm towards the top end of "normal" high street/supermarket ranges, and towards the bottom end of "plus size ranges"...
These are the things that work for me...
1) Accepting that not all styles of clothing suit me - just because there's a mini skirt or wet look leggings available in my size doesn't mean it will suit me!
2) I love makeup - especially eye makeup and I love creating different looks with different colours and products. I wear makeup everyday - BECAUSE I WANT TOAt the moment I am stuck at home with swine flu (oink oink!) but I will drag myself out of bed in a bit, have a shower, then get back into bed and put some makeup on
Probably sounds pointless to some but it will make me feel better
3) Wearing a decent bra - I HATE boulder holders with a passion, and I hate old granny bras (I'm only 30 !!!!!!!) I quite often buy stuff from Simply Be (I'll come back to them in a minute) and have discovered some fantastic plunge bras in various colours - I sort of went mad and bought 14 of them (they come in packs of 2 and some of the colours went in the sale recently) I have had several comments wearing these on my apparent perkiness
4) I keep myself well groomed - this doesn't either cost a fortune or take me long - for soft feet I use a foot file from Asda (about £1.50) and then before going to bed I slap on a dollop of E45 and a pair of old trainer socks - results in lovely soft hooves in the morningI paint my nails while watching TV, and get my hair cut every couple of months or so - in between cuts I sometimes do a teeny bit of tidying up, but I don't dye it (although first sign of a grey hair and out comes the dye
) and I don't straighten it - my hair is wavy/curly so I have it cut in a layered "messy" style if that makes sense? I just wash it, dump a dollop of mousse in it (currently swear by Boots Essentials mousse for curly hair - in a hot pink can) scrunch it, turn my head upside down and give it a quick blast with the hair dryer to help with volume (probably no more than 30 seconds in total)
5) I mentioned Simply Be - I have a credit account with them (which I always pay off in time) Sometimes if there's a sale or 10% or even 20% discount code floating around and I want to get some new trousers or bras (or whatever) I will go through the website and pick out quite a few things to try - perhaps a colour I don't usually wear or a style that is a bit different. Then when it all arrives I can try it all on in my own home, at my leisure, and my OH can give his opinion too (I hate trotting out of changing rooms to find him to ask him what he thinks of an outfit) Quite often I've ordered stuff that I thought would really suit me and I've looked like a sack of potatoes in it, and vice versa I've found stuff that has really suited me (made me look slimmer, younger, enhanced my waist etc etc) which I perhaps would not normally have considered.
Now the point of what I am saying is - take the opportunity to try something new - whether it be a different colour, a different style, a different type of clothing (e.g. think you hate dresses, have you tried ones cut to a different length etc) Like I said in my first point, I have to accept that certain looks don't suit me, but sometimes you don't know unless you try it on
I'm not saying you should all rush online to Simply Be or Littlewoods or whatever, and for those of you who do use such websites or think about using them - Remember that the interest on these is horrendous - if you cannot afford to pay for what you keep from your order, just don't order - DO NOT RUN UP DEBTS WITH THESE COMPANIES! You can just as easily try the gist of what I'm saying in Next, Dotty Ps, Evans, M&S etcDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -
i can not really control my weight as i have PCOS which is a nightmare..
It certainly makes it harder: but its not impossible. *sigh* they found I had PCOS when I got ill and that does have impact on why \i gained weight rapidly and find it hard to lose, but not all of it sadly (I have a triple whammy, PCOS, Inherited hpyothyroidism and a nurological condidtion which impacts everywhere, but weight wise, on my hypothalymus, which impacts, sadly). Eating a GI conscious diet helps, and peeps like us just have to accept we have to eat less and do more than others if we want to lose weight: it might not be fair or easy but it is possible. We can't change what nature/gentics did, but we can also fight back.
Three kids under five is not bad, considering the PCOS too! Conratulations!:beer:0 -

Well I braved a trip to a makeup counter today...
Good for you! Well done!
My suggestion is to spend some time at home practising and experimenting til you get comfortable and familiar ith the application techniques without the pressure of going out looking different to what you are used to.0 -
