I'm not drastically overweight (size 16 and out of shape!) but the issue I seem to have at the moment is because I know I want to lose a couple of stone (which I have finally started doing something about, after 2 years of talking about it :o) I have been reluctant to buy new clothes for quite a while, on the basis that I'll either lose weight and not get any wear out of them, or that having nice clothes in my current size will encourage me not to lose the weight at all!

Consequently most of my bras are saggy and don't quite fit properly, many of my tops are falling to bits... etc.

But yes, I do wear makeup (I have to as I suffer from acne and look a fright without it ) - I neglect my hair a bit, though I'm booked in for a cut and colour next Monday, and not a MOMENT too soon.

i too am wary of buying clothes for this size. (in fact DH and my mother buying them for me made me shop for some myself :rotfl:). My advice, what I do, is have two bras that fit, a boulder holder type, and an evening/plunge type, handwashing them, but no more thn that. Sagging boobs are not good for the mood, exercising with unsupported boobs is bad for the post weight loss droopage. Save on clothes, but buy at least one well fitting bra and hand wash it in the evening to wear the next day.

I'm ahead of you on that one LIR :) - I do have three bras which fit properly - and my sports one does as well - but it's such a faff washing stuff every day :o

I feel better and more confident if I have washed and straightened my hair, wear shoes with a bit of a heel, in smart clothes that fit properly and my makeup and nails done.

Today I got up late, didn't even have time to dry hair, wearing baggy top and trainers and feel rubbish.

If not for your benefit make some effort for that hubby of yours.

Can I ask why you have kind of given up on yourself a bit?

I used to work in jobs where I dealt with public, wore business clothes, make up etc. I have been practically housebound for a number of years and mostly have not had the energy to bother with looking after myself, that is changing though lol It is hard to get motivated to just sit around the house all day.

I think because it has been so long since I wore makeup I feel uncomfortable with it on , never looks "right" I have been out today though and bought myself some new clothes. I am going to sort wardrobe, when I have energy , and throw out all those illfitting , unflattering things I have in there and just keep putting back in again.

I have so many clothes and only wear a small portion of them lol

    so my list is

    sort clothes
    get hair done
    pedicure
    eyebrows waxed

ok may take me a few weeks but I will get there lol

Well done Doelani in getting in the right frame of mind and making a to-do list :T

I totally understand about the energy thing as I have had CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) for more than 12 years now. Some days I feel pants.....BUT, my philosophy is just because I FEEL cr%p doesn't mean I have to LOOK cr%p!! At least on the days when I don't make it out I know I look decent enough ;)

I put on a lot of weight (it doubled) with ill health and honestly, it depresses me more than my illness. It goes up and down a lot, my weight, though I'm determined not to get back up to that highest weight, I do know I feel better when I make an effort regardless of weight. Yesterday I was in the supermarket and I asked DH if I had somthing on me, or ooked weird, and he said no and asked why, and I said people kept looking t me, and he said ''they're all men, right?'' and winked, and much to my surprise he was right. Its confidence and its making the most of what you have got, and its true that while I don't look as good as I used to I get the odd smile and chat up. There was a point, in the middle of being thin and fat, where I got chatted up far more than when I was very slim, which was a revelation to me. I'm determined to continue making an effort to ''feel good'' but taking care of myself, because not only does it make being overweight less unbearable, but it helps in the strive to continue losing weight and looking even better with time: which is a luxury really, most people look worse over time, where as if we slim down we'll just get better, eh?

I have gained almost 4st in the last 2 years and i'm a bit the same, i think that come september when the kids go back to school i shall be heading to the gym most days :)

I agree it helps to make an effort :)

You could add a couple of things to your list: one would be a session with a personal shopper somewhere like Debenhams, even if you don't buy anything just getting some ideas of what would look good might help. And the other would be finding a make up counter where you aren't frightened off by the staff's warpaint and asking for a demo! You might get some samples too ...

I have alwayy wanted to do this but like you say some can be frightening and seem to look down their noses ( heavily painted ) at you lol I must say the idea of sitting on a stool at a makeup counter in the middle of a store is scarey
