Will farm shops sell in twos? I never knew that! Great! Thanks.

    Hi skintchick,

It's not a stupid question at all! There's an older thread that should help:

    freezing eggs?

I'll add your thread to that one tomorrow to keep all the replies together.

how long would it take you to get through 6 eggs?

I'm asking because eggs can stay useable way beyond the date on the packaging, so you might be able to buy a half dozen & actually get through them all

you can test for freshness by doing the FLOAT TEST (you have to scroll down)

I live alone and buy organic eggs in packs of 6 - I have kept some for 10 days on occasion, in the fridge, with no adverse effects.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • Use your really fresh eggs for eating 'on their own' as it were, i.e., poached, fried, scramble. It's just that as an egg gets older, it's still perfectly fine to eat, but the white tends to go a bit more watery and so are more suitable for omlettes, quiches, baking where it isn't as noticeable.

Poaching a watery egg is quite messy.:o

Nothing to do with freezing I know, I've not tried that. No, yes I have - egg whites. Work very well still for whipping.

Just what I was going to say ;) They really last a long time, much longer than the use by date indicates. Farm shops definitely sell them individually (at least the ones I frequent do).

I know about the float test, but they do always go off cos I so rarely use them.

    Thanks for all the replies.
