lloyds vantage opening

It seems that yesterday Lloyds changed the way existing Lloyds users can open a vantage account. You can no longer do it online or over the phone - you now have to go to a branch to do it.

I don't mind going into a branch if they'll let you open more than two.

Lloyds web site says you can have no more than three - mind you it also says you can apply for vantage online and that's not true!

This changed on 23rd July, however existing customers can still open a vantage account if you have online banking access with them, but with a two step process.

STEP 1 - To do so you need to login to your online banking, click on Apply Online-current accounts (LHS of page) which takes you to the next page, click apply now which takes you to the application page, click start application then answer 3 simple questions (2 tick boxes), then send. It takes 30 seconds to apply.

Your application is now done and your new Classic account will be seen online usually within 24-48hours.

STEP 2 - Once it shows online, click on upgrade, select Classic Vantage and Bob's your uncle, you now have a new Classic Vantage account.

I tried your formula and this was the result:

Sorry. We can't process your account application online.

space.gifspace.gifHowever, we may be able to process your application in a Lloyds TSB branch but we need to talk to you further about your application.
    space.gifspace.gifspace.gifSimply call into any Lloyds TSB branch with;
    • An original document confirming your identity e.g. passport or driving licence.
    • An original document confirming your address e.g. utility bill or bank statement.

That looks to me as if your ID cannot be verified electronically, hence the need for proof of who and where you are.

I have opened 3 Vantage this way, others here have also done the same without problem.

I already have two Vantage accounts with them and I am applying as per your instructions after logging into my accounts! They verified my information when I applied for the first two without problem. That was about a month back and nowts changed!

I keep applying for fresh accounts online and they simply ignore the applications. When I phoned them about it they said I couldn't have more than two accounts.

In that case I have no idea why, but my 6th and 7th Vantage accounts were opened in this way, the 7th being opened last Wednesday.

The original change on the 23/07 was specifically to stop multiple telephone applications. From that date all requests from existing customers were referred to branch. It could now be that ALL customers are being limited possibly and now they closed the door completely for more than 2 accounts ???

Ok well perhaps I might be better to go to the branch and ask them to open me some more.

I followed exel1966's directions and had the same problem as Steve_xx. Got the missus to have a go and voila - step 1 complete.

Quite odd as I'd have thought it'd be the other way round ID wise with us....

Thanks exel1966 - last Vantage we opened was done in Branch - if this works it'll be much quicker (and of course easier).

WRONG - that's the way it used to work! -

Now when you try to upgrade an account you get

" Sorry we are unable to progress with your request
    space.gifspace.gif
139144 - Account Upgrade : Your account already provides you with the very best benefits and savings available from Lloyds TSB on a range of banking and other services.
Click on any of the left hand menus to continue.

    "

Looks like they are changing things and haven't yet got the web site modified to give sensible messages.

it was when I phoned about this message that they told me that things changed last friday (and at that time the info was still filtering through the help line staff).
